Some useful social media sites are Blogs, Google+, facebook, twitter, Linkedin, pinterest, Foursqare, flickr and youtube etc.
But good news that, if you introduce your small business through social media, first time you don’t need to active all of these. First you can choose one or two social site. According to me, you should make your own blog or website page which will be best choice. It is very fruitful for promote your small business. This is the marketing tool by which you can share a wide array of information and content about your business and your product with your customer. Blog is the part of content marketing strategy; you must create strong and unique content for your target audiences. But you should know that it is the part of your on-going business, not a one time campaign or advertisement; it will take time to yield result.
Then you can create Facebook business page where you can communicate with audiences or customer by posting industry related article, images and video etc. If you offer unique products or services to a smaller range of customers; Facebook provides an excellent opportunity to reach the exact target audience with a personal approach.
If you get response well from this two sites, after two or three month you can move for other sites like you tube, Linkedin and twitter etc.
