Five Subjects Guaranteed to Draw an Online Audience

Updated on January 10, 2014

No other topic of discussion ignites our passions as much as religion. Our beliefs are deeply personal and shape our thoughts, our personalities and the way we interact in the world. As if thousands and thousands of years of human history were not enough evidence just spend five minutes researching news, online media articles, blogs and community forums. You can judge for yourself and be judged quite easily. Religion automatically guarantees an audience.

Mmmmm.. How did we arrive on the planet? We certainly were not dropped off by storks or magic fairies. Reproduction, mating and all sexually related matters are fascinating and stimulating adult discussions. Let's assume we are online chatting about healthy sexual relationships and not surfing thousands of porn websites . "Porn tourism" is what researchers are now calling the fifteen to twenty minute online "journeys" of sexual content men and women view daily. How did E.L. James sell over twenty million copies of "50 Shades of Grey" and become a cultural phenomenon last year?

What's Sexy to You?

Guns and Violence

In the United States all you have to do is type the word "gun" into an online forum and millions of people are ready to throw down.(not their guns but their views). Unfortunately, even with all of the most recent American tragedies our infatuation with guns and violence has incited our most powerful face to face and online debates.

Hello, George. I've missed you so...

How do we make more? How do we save it? How do we invest it? How do we protect it? Who has the most? Who has the least? Does it buy us happiness? Is it the root of all evil? We all need money to survive and just like sex we are always looking for more online. We like to brag about how much we make or buy expensive toys. Some unfortunate souls define themselves only by the amount of money they earn. The lure of making or winning quick and easy cash seems to be imprinted into our DNA. Whether you wear a business suit or stand on the corner we are hustling for the almighty dollar. Beware. There are money making scams and shady networks all over the Internet. Discuss.

Americans LOVE dogs. Put a dog in a story, video clip or online news article and rest assured you will draw an audience. Anyone who has ever owned or loved an animal especially dogs, know the power and amazing gifts they unselfishly provide humans. Most dogs are loyal, gentle, sweet and affectionate creatures. Dogs are non judgmental and many human beings will admit they would rather spend quiet time with dogs than loud obnoxious people. There is a reason websites receive millions of hits when a soldier is video taped reuniting with his precious K-9 companion after months of serving overseas. How many times have we clicked on the story of a selfless and inspiring service or companion animal who just saved a child's life? WE LOVE DOGS! Certain topics may initially lure readers or customers to a web page or forum but if you want them to stay and explore we have to provide intelligent, interesting, emotionally moving or clever content. Never undermine your audience. Capture and keep attention. Universally, there are certain topics that will seduce a willing audience to a website again and again. The Internet is a vast ocean of information and their are millions of other fish in the sea. Do you catch and release or keep them hooked?

Yes. We love you DOG!

LKMore, I fully agree with your choice of subjects but I feel food is one of the most shared thing on the Facebook so it must be a big thing too. Voting it up and sharing it with followers.

Hmmm. Well so far, I have written a little about making money, but none of the rest. Funny, I was just about to write one about my dog's breed. I'll see if that makes a big splash.

Thanks for the advice on what readers seem to be gravitating to these days. You laid it out quite nicely. Sharing.

Very interesting list of topics, LKMore and I agree religion is the most debated topic, making money; the most researched one, dogs; the most people love talking and writing about, sex; the most taboo but clearly the one most of us are interested in reading about and guns; something that all of us secretly want to own, for self protection of course!

Great job on this hub and you certainly have a fantastic array of hub topics .

    Voted up and interesting.

I have this great (and definitely not politically correct) image of a pack of Chihuahuas wearing sidearms and bandoliers. I´m not sure what they could advertise, but Taco Bell would probably try to hire them before they could do a hub.

Thank you Dr. Mark1961 for reading and commenting. When you do decide to interview a pack of gun dogs about their take on gun control I will be the first to promote your appearances on the morning media talk shows. You will need a good publicist. Honestly, low or high score you should write what you feel. Peace always.

I have a hub about our dogs it didn't get many views but has picked up lately. Now cats they get lots of views I don't have a hub on them but I see how much attention they get on Hubpages. The other subjects you mentioned I will stay away from, just like I do in real life.

Your hub was very interesting and useful. Voted up.

I have gotten some following from my hubs on dog history. a few of my religion related hubs have done OK but I don't want to debate doctrine.

For the otehr subjects, I'll leave them to others.

This was really interesting but I would warn your readers to be careful about combining these subjects. Two of my worse performing hubs are about "Zen and Dogs" and "The Tao and Dogs".

Maybe I should try interviewing a pack of dogs about their take on gun control!

I agree, religion, sex and money are hot topics. However, religion and sex are two topics I prefer to stay away from. Money is a good topic, but I don't write about it much. I love writing about animals, especially dogs. They are truly man's best friend! I love the picture of your poodle looking out the window, it's just awesome! I'm sorry she has passed, I'm sure you miss her terribly! This is a very interesting hub, voting it up, interesting and sharing. Welcome to HubPages! :)

I have written some hubs about pets, both dogs and cats... but as to the rest...I think that I will take a pass. Interesting topic however and one that is sure to bring attention.

You know what? I know I read this and commented but ta da, no comment here. So I'll try again! After reading this the mystery of why I make only a dollar a day is solved....I don't write about any of these subjects. :) Thanks for the tips and I hope you are well my friend.
