Abba - Money Money Money - Still A Rich Mans World?

Updated on November 1, 2011

Have Things Really changed?

Since the song ‘Money, Money, Money’ ... It's a rich mans world .... was released in November 1976 you would think the world had moved on would you not? My feeling is that it has not; in fact I would go as far as saying that the world is even more in love with money now than ever before and men are generally still the richer of the sexes. This is part of the reason for the state of the world economy today.

Money Money Money - Abba - Still Relevant?

Let's review the song lyrics and see!
Let's review the song lyrics and see!

Money Money Money - Abba

I work all night, I work all day, to pay the bills I have to pay
Ain't it sad
And still there never seems to be a single penny left for me
That's too bad
In my dreams I have a plan
If I got me a wealthy man
I wouldn't have to work at all, I'd fool around and have a ball

Money, money, money, Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money , Always sunny
In the rich man's world Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world

A man like that is hard to find but I can't get him off my mind
Ain't it sad
And if he happens to be free I bet he wouldn't fancy me
That's too bad
So I must leave, I'll have to go
To Las Vegas or Monaco
And win a fortune in a game, my life will never be the same

Money, money, money, Must be funny
In the rich man's world
Money, money, money , Always sunny
In the rich man's world Aha-ahaaa
All the things I could do
If I had a little money
It's a rich man's world

Money And Suffering

The desire to have money is a normal feeling that most people have as a natural need to survive and prosper. However, the desire to have money by greedy investment bankers, politicians and high ranking public servants as well as other non elected organisational leaders is more than just a healthy need to provide for self and family. It is nothing short of pure greed and corruption.

In the past few years we have had the global financial and banking crisis, multiple politician expenses scandals and fraud on a global scale by some of the worlds top business men. These are prime examples of how those at the top help themselves.

Who suffers from all this greed and corruption in the end? Ordinary people like you and I do; because of the massive public spending on a global scale and a general alienation from government leads to leadership change as the government of the day is voted out.

This happens because they are seen as leading us to this dreadful place of greed and corruption and doom. What happens next? Well, eveyone has to take pay cuts, work less hours, pay more taxes and public spending is axed in all the wrong places. As our American friends would say ... go figure!

An Investment In Sex

Nevertheless, let me tell you why it is still a rich man’s world! Don’t get me wrong ladies, I am all for you having money in an equitable world, but whilst women have made great progress in general liberation, career and wealth in the past 34 years they are still the poor relative when it comes to making and having very large sums of money. That domain remains with men unfortunately and it is still a rich man’s world because women remain at a major disadvantage because of the need to raise children.

Thank god women do that otherwise we’d be a society of old folk in an ageing population with not enough young blood to carry on our shabby human progress in this world and try to do things better. This career disadvantage leads to major periods of time in the lives of women when they are not on the career ladder and therefore don’t progress as much as their male colleagues. Women out of the work place for a number of years often struggle to find the time or motivation to re-train, get back up to speed, etc and settle for so called domestication instead.

Is this a life wasted or a life well invested in Children?

It's Your Turn - Go For It!
It's Your Turn - Go For It!

The Internet Changes Everything!

I believe that times are a changing! The Internet has now come of age and there are great ways for women who stay at home to raise children to empower themselves. Women can now stay abreast of developments in their field, work from home while raising children, full or part time and even find whole new careers or ways of making money online.

Why has the Internet come of age? The omnipresence of very high speed internet on a plethora of devices is now far along the growth curve and because the applications and web sites to support choice have finally caught up with the technology. There are a wealth of ways to learn, train and earn online today and more are popping up all the time. Some require skill, some require social skills whilst others require multi-tasking; all attributes most women have in abundance.

So, girls ... it’s your turn now. Go out there and find a way to make the song ‘Money, Money, Money’ ... It's a rich man's world as old fashioned as the clothes ABBA wore back in 1976.
