Procrastination Perspective

Updated on March 11, 2013

Self Improvement

When I recorded my demo CD's for my voice over career one of the scripts from Such a Voice touched on procrastination. Basically, it said, "Procrastination and perfectionism go hand and hand. We procrastionate because we want to be perfectionists in everything we do." In other words we don't get anything done because it's got to be done right.

This kind of thinking can lead to various problems.A better way to think is to realize that we want to do well and this is a good thing. So be proud of yourself for that to start with. Then decide what it is that you're spending time avoiding the most. This it would seem, would be the thing you'd like to spend some time addressing. You know it. It's got to be done. Just get it over with. You'll feel better after you do. It's always good to do thing to improve your life.

I know it's hard to do something you've been putting off. It's because it's something that's going to be uncomfortable in some way. Of course it is. This is why when in this situation you've got to pull yourself up with your bootstraps as my great-grandmother used to say. You've got to get the inspiration you need to attack the problem . Which of course it usually what it ends up being. A problem. Okay. Make a decision.

It took me about a couple of days to decide to enroll in college.

It took me less than a second to decide to marry my long time boyfriend.

It took me about a second to decide that I wanted a child.

It took me quite a while to decide to advance my career, but I did.

See, you can get going on some of those items on your life list that you've always been wanting to get to. You can start at any time in your life. Now, might be a good time. Start anything by going on Google. Find out what you can and go for it. Good luck.

Odd. I think for me, just now realizing, and knowing it is an art form for me at times, it isn't the perfectionism as much as I just don't like exams. I'm smiling Lisa. Now, I may have a new view about somethings I need to do.
