This is Hawaiian Odysseus's entry!

And so it begins.....

I am not one to back down from a challenge so when Joe (aka Hawaiian Odysseus) suggested a friendly battle of skill on Ebay - I was IN! The challenge was very simple....find something along the side of the road during a leisurely walk..and sell it on EBAY for a profit! Sounds tricky...right?!?!? NAH!

If you haven't been reading all of our hubs..let me give you a bit of backstory. Both Joe and I should belong to an Ebay support group! Our spouses both refer to us as packrats, hoarders, and sick people...and those are the nicest things that they will call us today. Anyhow...we met on the wonderful blogging site Hubpages where we both share our passions for the business of Ebay. Somewhere along the lines, I wrote a hub...10 Strange Things Sold on Ebay -amongst the 10 strange items sold were tings like fairy dust, farts in jars, ghost poop, broken paperclips, etc..(read the article would ya!?!) and this crazy list got both Joe's and my entrepreneurial juices flowing.

So, the gauntlet was thrown down and I was challenged to this roadside trash to profit game. Originally, there were some rules...then we decided it was no holds barred - go for it - "no-rules" rules! To see how this all started from the other side of the ring...click HERE.

With no rules...I set out. My first find was a beautiful "retro chic" chair. It was about a mile away from my home and I didn't want to carry it back to my house...people might think I was crazy! Please note for the record that this would be the VERY FIRST time I have ever been concerned with people's perceptions of me. My second option was to call my husband and tell him that I needed a lift with my prized find....that would be a bad idea. He KNOWS that I am crazy and offers nothing but eye rolling when prompted with dumpster finds. So I passed on that plan.....

The Ohio weather wasn't cooperating with me! It was supposed to be nice but the weather just wouldn't pan out. I finally got a decent day and headed out with my family hoping to secretly score a find. I found a few items and quickly collected them without being detected by my husband..... at item number 3, I was busted by my husband. His response was..."honey, you are mentally ill, if you can sell it before we get home, you can have it." That wasn't going to happen-So...I put the items back. About this time, my children began complaining that they were read to be home. Normally, I would have been upset BUT tonight....this meant hubby would take them home and I could go back to collecting ( I mean walking). I had 2 brave soldiers who wanted to go with me so I set back out (bag in hand this time) with my 2 kids looking for treasure. I found nothing except that the street cleaning crew had went through my neighborhood! Rain began to fall from the sky cutting my walk short as well as the option of going elsewhere to walk, so I did what any good entrepeneurer and challenger would do....I made do with what I could find.

There along the roadsides and in my neighbors yards are my inspiration...TONS OF PINECONES!!!!

I present to you my Ebay challenge item...GENUINE (as if they could be faked) OHIO PINECONES scented in citrus. They are being offered at the bargain rate of $2.99 plus shipping with a donation of 50% going to a local humane society.

To see HOW I made these...Check out my next Hub - How to make Scented Pinecones!

So, Joe...GAME ON! you are a few days ahead of me but I have the power of Ohio on my side!

Do you Ebay? Get inspired!

Thanks Kathryn! I totally think that they would have sold but the picture was too "low quality" for Ebay so there was no picture! If I would have realized it, I totally would have fixed it but the error popped up AFTER I posted! I may try again though! Hawaiian Odysseus is always up for a challenge!

Even if the pinecones didn't sell, it was a cool (and creative) challenge. I think the pinecones look very pretty, and I see bags like that sold often in stores.

Voted up and across. Have a wonderful 4th of July!

mommymay, not only do I love this article, I think you must be a genius! It would never have occured to me to prettily package and sell pinecones!

I have to tell you, by the way, I love your hubber handle. Our neighbor up the road when I was young was always known to us as 'MommyMaine'. Your name definitely reminds me of that wonderful lady with the greenest thumb I have ever known ;) Pearl

Hello Joe! While I did have the added helpers....I honestly do m best thinking when I am multi-tasking. I often tell m husband , "If I am looking directly at you when you speak....I am definitely not listening". I think it was my years of management and juggling multiple balls at once! I had hoped to sell these BUT Ebay has been rather unfriendly with images lately and my picture isn't staying up. I am out of town so have to take a new one as soon as I get back...then, I will be in the race!!! If the sell, I have to admit, this is a whole new side to Ebay business and I am getting inspired!

Wow, Heather! I gotta hand it to you...your finished product looks awesome! In fact, you might just be on to something wonderful! I am so proud of you.

But here's where my heart really goes out to you. I was by myself on a ten-mile walk and was thus able to focus on the task at hand.

You, my stalwart Ohio friend, had the added responsibility of watching out for your two little troopers--a task raising the level of anxiety and stress considering that you're walking on the side of a road where vehicles weighing two tons or more pass you by.

Job well done, my friend! Blessings to you and your family, and hooray for being a great sport, willing participant, and zany eBayer equal to the task!

      With great respect,

      Joe

Aahhhh . . . see, you got clever with fancy packaging and overall craftiness. That leads us to our next challenge--perhaps creating something "magical" out of roadside treasures? Hmmmmm . . . :) You and Joe have inspired me to rebuild my eBay muscle; as we speak, I have a sink full of seashells picked up from our local adventures! I even grabbed some palm tree bark in case there's a market for that. lol! Thanks for the ideas!
