Nurses in any hospital are as important as the doctors themselves. No health care center will be able to function smoothly without the helping hand of the nurses. They are a part of a team of doctors, social workers, and other members. Therefore, nursing as a career is important and at the same time, crucial. Usually, nurses will be 24*7 with patients looking after their needs. They will make sure you take prescribed medicine in time and listen to your pain & problems. In addition to this, they monitor the progress of your health and communicates the same with doctors. Whenever you are in need of care, they work tirelessly to identify and protect your needs.

Nursing jobs in Punjab have opportunities in abundance. Punjab is one of the most famous states in India where the individuals prefer nursing as a career. Since this career teaches compassion, care, belongingness, empathy, etc, it is preferred by many in Punjab.

Skills of a Nurse

  • A caring nature is a must. You should be compassionate about your work.

  • Help the officials in performing various diagnostic tests and analyze their results.

  • Explain how to continue the treatment of patients at home.

  • Observe the patients on a daily basis and then keep a record of the observations.

  • Report about the needs of a patient to the higher authorities.

Qualification required to be a Nurse

  • A BS or Diploma degree in Nursing.

  • Thorough knowledge about the technicalities of the equipment used in the hospital.

  • Past proven experience of nursing for at least one year.

About courses in Nursing

There are a lot of subcategories that come under the profession of registered nurses. You can choose from general nurses, midwives, and health workers. And then accordingly you can select what course you want to pursue. Here is a list of the different kinds of courses available:

  • The Auxiliary Nurse Midwife Course: You can join this course soon after completing class 10th. The duration of this diploma course is 1.5 years.

  • General Nursing and Midwifery Program: The eligibility to join this course is a pass out from grade 12th who has a minimum of 40% aggregate in Biology, Chemistry, English, and Physics. The duration of this course is 3 and a half years.

  • BSc Nursing: The basic nursing program is available in various colleges of the country. The eligibility criteria are the same as that for General Nursing and Midwifery program.

Salary Scope

Registered Nurses who have just started their careers and are freshers can earn around INR 15k per month. The salary package keeps on increasing as you gain more experience in the field. Also, if you have an MSc degree in Nursing, then you can start earning in between INR 25k to INR 40k per month, even as a fresher. Moreover, highly experienced nurses can earn around INR 75k in the field of nursing.

Since the population is increasing rapidly, the demand for healthcare units is also increasing. In fact, according to the latest study, 10.3 lakh people approximately have pursued a course in nursing. However, the number of nurses who are active in the profession is only 4 lakh. So the demand is more, but the number of nurses actively working is less. The job profile assures the security of the job. And the opportunities are ever-increasing in the country, as well as abroad.

A successful nurse use their knowledge as a resource to keep all the departments functioning. Another advantage of becoming a nurse is that jobs are in high demand. In contrast to other professions, nursing positions in hospitals, health centers are never filled. There is always a huge demand for nurses. Moreover, nurses usually receive better perks along with signing bonuses and shift preferences.
