Profitable SEO Copywriting Services to Offer

SEO Copywriting Services: Which Ones Are the Most Lucrative for Freelancers to Offer

I’ve been a freelance writer/editor since 1993. It wasn't until 2007 that I started to offer SEO copywriting services (wow, amazing how time flies; it seems like only yesterday that I started in this lucrative niche). Following are three that have been the most lucrative for my SEO writing firm.

The 3 Most Profitable SEO Copywriting Services

Before I list them, let me say, this is from my own personal experience. Other SEO copywriters may have had different experiences.

I. SEO Articles: This is without a doubt the number one most requested service by clients. Most articles fall in the 350-500 word count range. And, most clients want them within a week. SEO article writing is profitable for three reasons:

Why SEO Article Writing is One of the Most Profitable SEO Copywriting Services to Offer

(i) Clients Order in Bulk: It’s rare that clients will order one SEO articles. In my experience 4-10 is the normal range. So if you’re charging my rock-bottom recommended SEO article writing rate of $25, you can see how this can add up – quickly.

(ii) Clients Tend to Reorder: Once clients find an SEO content provider they like, they tend to stick with them; they’re loyal. I have some of the very first clients I landed in 2007 to this day (2010 as of this writing).

I think this is the case because most clients who need search engine optimized content need a lot of it quickly – and continuously. So, if your prices meet their budget and you always deliver on time, you should have no problem holding on to clients once you land them.

(iii) It Can be Married w/ Other Service Offerings: About a year into my SEO writing career, I started to offer article marketing and distribution to clients. As I was already writing the content for them, I offered to set up article marketing campaigns for them.

What is an SEO article marketing campaign? It’s where you write and distribute articles to free article directories. It’s an excellent way to build backlinks. I charge $595 for an article writing/distribution campaign.

This has become another very popular service for my larger clients – who just don’t have the time or know how to do this.

As you can see writing search engine optimized articles can be highly profitable for SEO copywriters.

II. SEO Blogging: What is this? Quite simply, blog posts written with SEO in mind. SEO blog posts differ from SEO articles in two ways: (i) in the word count; and (ii) in how they’re used (ie, the go on a blog as opposed to a website or being distributed as free articles for article marketing, for example).

When I first started out as an SEO copywriter, this wasn’t one of the SEO copywriting services I offered. I got into it because clients kept asking me if I wrote blog posts. It didn’t take me long to see that this was a profit center I couldn’t afford to turn down.

On subjects I know about, I can turn out a 150-300 word blog post in 20-30 minutes. It may take a hair longer for subjects I have to do some research on. Either way, at $15/per (my initial rate), this quickly became one of my most profitable SEO copywriting services. Now, I charge at $25 for a 150-300-word blog post. At 2-3 per day, you can see how this can quickly add up.

I’m the ghost blogger for several clients on a monthly, ongoing basis (for some clients, going on two years).

III. Report Writing: Now, this not SEO writing, but it’s a service that kind of took off because of a free report I wrote about internet marketing (which of course includes talk about search engine optimization). Get this free internet marketing report which can be accessed at the end of the linked-to article, SEO Copywriters: How to Make an Extra $61,880 This Year.

To briefly explain, I wrote this 21-page report because clients were asking me a lot of questions about SEO, article marketing, pay per click, etc. So, to help them better understand internet marketing – I wrote an in-depth report that answered the most frequently asked questions I’d received over a year to year and a half time frame.

And you know what? My sales shot up.

Clients started asking me if I could write similar “informational” reports for their businesses. Most were in the 10-15 page range, and at $25-$35 per page, plus $45/hour for research time, I was averaging $500-$600 per report. Some were four figures.

So, while my informational report writing (ebook writing) is technically not one of my SEO copywriting services, it came about indirectly because of my knowledge of SEO. To learn more about this aspect of my SEO writing business, visit and click on “Ebook Writing.”
