Save Your Money, Read this Before you Buy That Book

Updated on September 4, 2011

The opinions expressed are not intended to offend anyone nor are they intended to dissuade anyone from the purchase of any motivational material. It is my wish to express my opinions only.

Profound Laws are Free

Let me state first and foremost that my Grandfather had books on his shelves that I never read. One of these was Think and Grow Rich. My Grandfather not only thought, but he went to other countries trying to become a millionaire. He did not know, truly, that he had become rich.

Everywhere he went he made friends, gained free lodging, was considered a miracle worker by the people he visited. He wanted me to write the story of his life and call it "The Miracle Man" because that is what they called him in British Honduras.

When I have time, I will dig up all of that info, and news articles, but for now that is another story. (We Miss you Papa).

This is about Napoleon Hill, and all the people who are trying to get your money for "secrets" you can find for free on YouTube.

I have personally seen these secrets in action. My cousin went to a seminar in Texas, in the sixties. He decided he wanted to make his first million by the time he was Twenty-One. By the time he was twenty-one, he was worth over three million. He was eighteen when he went to that seminar. He told me what the secret was. His name is Bruce Reed, and if you look him up you'll find he has a chain of ice cream shops call Bruster's,  and he has made a deal to franchise his dad's original business Jerry's Curb Service. He has been rich a long time, and he has made a lot of other people rich. He likes making other's rich. He is not selling any books. He has sold a lot of franchises though.

This is just a Wikipedia link about the ice cream shop. Too many other links would be necessary to get that much info.'s_Ice_Cream

I have never been able to do it myself, that does not mean it does not work, just that I was unable to apply it to my life.

My boss went to a seminar too, he almost had the dream, but he says he was forced to pull back, at the time, due to a family issue.

These Secrets are Not Unique

I must say, if you look up Napoleon Hill, you'll find some of the oldest videos on the subject on YouTube, however these are nothing new according to those who practice Kabbalah. Anthony Robbins has been selling it to us too, with great success. Bob Proctor... Shall I even go on?

Our own Kelley Eidam has a hub on limiting beliefs.

My Grandpa would say, "if a man tries to sell you a billy goat and tells you it's a nanny goat with a deformed udder, are you gonna buy it? And don't say, yeah if I really need the milk."

Anthony Robbins on The Power of Belief

The Source of The Secret

You Can Fix Yourself

In summary, you can fix yourself. The Bible says "Physician heal thyself." and "Your faith has made you whole." Can it be, that these secrets are actually spread throughout that book. The movie The Source of the Secret seems to make this claim. So who can copyright and sell you this information?

I was watching the Olympics, and writing, when a "new" Guru came on the television screen, touting his new book that is on the New York Times Best Seller list. So I looked him up here, on-line. I found a woman who offers the same secret, with the same title. His is $299.00, but there are 14 CDs All of the below websites come up if you search Your Wish is Your Command, on google.

Kevin Trudeau is selling "his" version on TV and the Internet. His claim is that "the secret to making it work was withheld" but he has found it and includes it in his teachings. Lest I dissuade anyone from the purchase he also said that those who will try to tell you it doesn't work don't have any money and are the "losers" of this world. He claims secret societies have existed that were furious with Napoleon Hill for revealing what he did. He further claims to have belonged to one of those secret societies. He claims that anyone who has sold you any books on getting rich never got rich themselves until they started selling the book. He goes on to tell all of the things he has done to get rich himself. One of which was the sales of a Mega Memory program. and a Debt Cure. So for the sake of argument I looked those up to, and look what I found.

If you have the money and you want to buy it, go ahead, just be sure to compare it to all of the video you can find on the subject elsewhere on the Internet.

I don't really know anything, I am one of the "losers."

You can find out more about Napoleon Hill, and others he worked with, at The Napoleon Hill Foundation. There is a lot of free information there, as well as course materials and books. I tend to think it has been around a lot longer. But I notice too the similar symbol on this site and the symbol on this "new found" secret. My cousin is of the Napoleon Hill group, you know, the guys who taught others what Napoleon Hill taught them. It worked for him.

Thank you, I do hope I don't come off as a downer, but sometimes you have to do your research before you buy something, especially when the price tag is high end! I bought a TV and got a great deal, the only thing is it doubles my electric bill when I watch it alot. Now I watch everything on my PC. The other TV would have been as good, albeit more expensive, but lower electric usage. I didn't do my homework on it!

I don't read books - anymore - I come here first - and enjoy the waves of your wisdom and wit rolling over me - over and over and over and over.

You make your reader think and ponder - and that is a good thing - congratulations to my favorite teacher, peer and comrade!

My Grandfather was a great man, he was a school teacher and an entrepreneur, but the "original self help book" as I pointed out is still available, while people are trying to repackage the same principles and charge between 25 and 35 times the price.

I think a lot of people, like your grandfather, who are drawn to self-help books are also people who tend to impact those around them. Maybe it's partly due to the books. I have to admit, I am a reader of many, but I do think there are a lot of them out there that are not worth the money they boast.
