Steven Slater Sliding Departure

Updated on February 16, 2011

I Had To Write Hub A About This

Hello Folks,

Just another day writing online and when I'm in the mood I love it.

It's August 2010 and I'm writing about news. I never write about news because I feel that is what television and the radio is for BUT this news story made me and many others joke around and laugh so hard.

This past week thousands and probably millions of people are talking about a guy named Steven Slater. He is an flight attendant for Jet Blue airlines. Steven had been a flight attendant for 28 years I believe.

This story has brought national attention to itself but it has also brought national attention to Jet Blue and how flight attendants are treated by thousands of different people everyday.

I continued to keep my ears open to learn more about the story. It's been a few days now and all of the news reports still start off saying that it was a passenger who was treating the flight attendant Steven Slater very poorly by verbally attaching him and helped cause her travel on to hit him in the head which cut his forehead. After taking the unnecessary abuse from the passenger, the airline attendant Steven grabbed the microphone and cursed out the woman while saying thank you to all of the respectful people he has served over his 28 years of being an airline attendant and finally he says he quits . He then decided to pull the emergency chute and the emergency slide opens, he grabbed two beers and proceeds to slide down the emergency slide. Wow, what a way to end a career.

OK, I don't feel he is a hero and I do feel he went way overboard with his extravagant style of quitting his job however, I can relate to how he feels and I do appreciate someone finally putting a self-absorbed person who feel they are the only person breathing the air in their place. Finally, someone had the courage to speak for me and many others.

I'm sure some of you might not agree with me giving good wishes to a man who clearly lost his temper and acted outlandish but I have laughed so many times over every time I hear it on the news or speak about the topic with anyone. Some people give me dirty looks while others join me in a real good hard laugh.

News Links

I visited Facebook to learn more about the outburst and to learn more about the story.  News channels all over the Facebook channel.  I thought if you would like to watch and listen to more of what the news channels are reporting, I placed links below.

This Chick Is Funny

A friend of mine sent me this interview video.  It's 15 seconds long but so funny.  I'm sure many of you will appreciate the humor in it.

How do you feel?

I also have mixed feelings about this incident. I've heard different versions of the story since it was 1st reported. Sometimes we don't get the whole story. Anyway, here's my take. I don't agree with Slater's profanity, but when I heard about this, I was thinking, "good for you" when he fussed out the lady who refused to sit down or apologize after her luggage hit him on the head.

The one thing that I really found insane was that they sent a swat team and helicopters to arrest this guy. You talk about over kill and a waste of money. It was ridiculous. It's like they are arrest and criminalize people for the most trivial reasons these day. It's crazy.

I have mixed feelings about Slater. Since the plane had already pulled up to the gate, he could have just walked out with the passengers and never come back. Or after having exited the plane, quietly sneaked up to the irate passenger and told her off. Either way he could have prevented this spectacle and embarrasement to JetBlue, or could have quit his job sooner.

Yes,mailxpress I'm a school teacher. I am retiring (paperwork still ongoing) and will NOT be retuwning August 18Th. Oh joy! I will go back and substitute, because I love the kids, but no more lesson plans, and having to go to work every day no matter how I feel. I'm 60 and have lymphedema in both legs, so the last few years have been so hard.
