TIME TO GO TO WORK

Updated on September 4, 2009

It CAN happen

Having just read that unemployment is at 9.7%, the highest rate since 1983. The underemployment rate, which is comprised of those who took part time work or who have given up looking altogether is the highest it's ever been since they started keeping account of that in 1994.

Those are VERY telling numbers. It means that the government is going to be digging deeper and deeper into their pockets to provide free money, especially to those who've given up trying. That is just awful.

There are PLENTY of opportunities out there for a person to make a living. It doesn't mean it's going to be easy, but money CAN be made out there...if you work for it.

What kind of jobs am I talking about? Sure there are eighty zillion Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) get rich quick schemes out there. That's fine to try if you don't mind annoying all of your friends to the point where they won't pick up the phone when you call anymore. Just about EVERY MLM is the same. I've heard just about every pitch that there is to hear, and they all wind up about the same...give me some money for the right to sell this junk or buy this stuff from me and see how great it is and then load up on stuff yourself and start selling away... Here's a bit of friendly advice. If they want you to buy something from them, run like the wind in the opposite direction and if it's a friend, don't pick up the phone when they call anymore.

There are legitimate businesses though out there that offer you great opportunities to make money but that are straight commission. The only thing that you're spending money on is your time. If you're not working and can't find something, pull yourself up and find one of these businesses that you can believe in and start working at making yourself a living.

"But Mitch, I don't know how to sell?" BS! Anyone can sell. You sell every day and just don't realize it. Selling is simply the art of convincing someone of something. If you want your spouse to do something and they say no and then do what you're requesting of them, then guess what...that's a closed sale.

There are a ton of businesses and industries out there that are willing to give people a chance to earn money with them. Because the economy is so bad, they're not laying out salaries, but they’re giving out opportunities.

I've been living on straight commission for the last 13+ years. I have a family, car and mortgage payments just like the rest of you, but I don't want someone else telling me how to think, what to think and how much money I can or can't make. Despite what the present administration thinks of capitalism, the entrepreneurial spirit has 100% been what has made this country great. It's what keeps this country great and it's 100% what will pull this country out of this quagmire of sludge that's dragging us to our knees.

We own two companies, Crossroads Consulting, LLC and Better Life Group, LLC. Crossroads is a full time and permanent placement only executive search firm. Better Life Group is a pre-employment screening, life coaching and self improvement company that I started a short time ago. Both pay straight commission and they pay a healthy commission for the work you're doing. We need to hire three full time Recruiters this minute. For Better Life, we're looking at bringing on a staff of ten to start.

There are also a variety of different insurance companies, both life and health as well as property & casualty that are looking for more people to get on board. We know of clients that are in manufacturing and other industries that are willing to take chances on people that are motivated to earn even if they don’t have the necessary experience. Why? Because the overhead is so limited and the upside is so high.

What does it take to get one of these jobs? It takes guts. It takes hard work and most of all it takes perseverance.

“But Mitch, I need security”

Really?

I had a friend recently get let go from a company after 14 years of dedicated hard work. They didn’t even give him severance... great security. Another candidate told me that he worked for his company for 25 years, virtually his entire adult life. They laid him off and gave him one month’s salary... one month’s salary for 25 years of work.

Being in control of your own destiny is the only way to live!

Hell, you’re not working, or making any money. Why not at least give yourself a chance to get back on your OWN feet without someone else paying for it. Not only is that the American way, but the reward of accomplishment and the fact that you’ll never have anyone to answer to again is so freeing it’s ridiculous.

People say to me all the time, “I CAN’T work on straight commission. I have bills. I have (fill in the blank)” There is truth to this. But on the other end of the spectrum sitting on your ass doing nothing is not going to fix anything either. Also, there is no such thing as CAN’T. There’s only WON’T.

Excuses are not going to get your situation any better. Here’s another old saying...”WINNERS find a WAY...LOSERS find EXCUSES!” Dennis DeYoung, the former lead singer of the 80’s band “Styx” once told me that, “A WINNER is a loser who got up from being knocked down, just one more time.” Truer words have never been spoken.

But I think this whole thing was best summed up In “Rocky Balboa.” Sylvester Stallone wrote a brilliant speech that deals exactly with what I’m writing about. In it, Rocky is speaking to his son and says these incredible words, “The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now if you know what you're worth then go out and get what you're worth. But ya gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that and that ain't you! You're better than that!”

You can get a job today! How? Just go up to a company...one you’re interested in, and say to them, “I want to join your sales team and I’ll do it on straight commission.” I guarantee if you did that to ten companies, and did it with conviction, that you’ll have a job by the end of next week. Then you’re back in the game, to use Rocky’s words, “moving forward” and you’ll giving yourself, and your family, a chance to have true independence.

There simply is NOTHING better than having total control of your own destiny. Your personal livelihood being completely in your own hands with no accountability to nobody but yourself is simply the only way to live.

I’ll sum up by telling you what I always tell everyone who ever considers coming to work for me; “With great risk comes the chance for great reward. With little to no risk, comes little to no reward.”

Should you have any interest in working with us on either of our two companies, you can start right away. Reach out to me at 203-459-9969 x100 or via email at info@crossroadsconsulting.com.

Whether you want to work with us or not, go out there and make it happen for yourself. Nobody is going to give it to you. You’ll have to go out there and do it for yourself. You can do it...
