The Most Common Office Characters
There are several different types of office people. Personalities in an office setting can vary widely.
In this hub, I am going to explain the main characters.

There are good and bad characters in the office.
Let’s take a look at some of the most common.
“The Gossip” Office Queen
This is one of the main characters in the office. She looks for gossip. She thrives on being in the “know.” If you get into a conversation with her, she will tell you she will never say a word about anything to anyone. However, whatever you tell her is usually spread all over the globe, and it comes back to you as a total lie.
Do not worry about this type in the office, they will either get discovered, or find someone else.
The “It’s nothing I can top that” Office Topper
Mr. “Topper” usually sits in the office and waits patiently to hear a story. After you get about two words out of your mouth, he is boasts about how he has done it before. He has flown the air planes, he has climbed the highest mountain, he was the navy seal, and the cook.
If you just let him have his day in the sun, and keep your peace, you can make him happy.
The “Know it all” of the office
Mr. Know it all knows way more than you do. He has an enormous amount of information. He will share everything he knows. Remember, you do not know anything when you are speaking to him. He will never admit that you do, and if he really is wrong about something, he will lie, lie, and lie some more.
The best ways to deal with Mr. Know it all is to just admit to him how brilliant he is.
“The Evil One” of the office
Do not forget about the evil one. This person in an office setting is usually very sneaky. You have to watch these types. They often target their prey. The evil one is the same as the gossip, but with an evil twist. They not only go out of their way to tarnish someone’s reputation with slander, but it is very hard to prove they are doing it.
Steer clear of these types, unless you want to be accused of everything from harassment to dating the country.
“The goody” of the office
This is the one that sits in the office waiting to find brownie points to earn. They quietly listen to everyone. You know when you have been stung with their goodness when they say, “that is against the rules.” You can usually find this person behind the boss.
To deal with the goody, you should avoid showing your face to them at all costs. Just say hello, and keep walking.
“The Clueless” of the office
In the office, you will usually have someone that is clueless about everything. They are almost handicap, and they require you to use team work. Don’t worry about this type, when they do catch on, they are usually pretty good workers.
“The Team Player” of the office
This is a very good character for the office. Usually the team player is their when someone needs them. They can get their work done, and help you out without a problem. They have a tendency to listen to everyone, and help everyone out the best they can.
Unfortunately, more often than not, the “Team Player” can go un-recognized in the office. It seems, since they are willing to put forth so much effort, that they are taken for granted.
If you have a team player in the office, make sure they get recognized for their efforts.
“The Workaholic” of the office
These types usually receive a salary pay, and it baffles you as to why they would come to work two hours early. They work as much as they can, and stress very easy. Sometimes you will see them spinning in the middle of a room, almost out of control. This is slightly exaggerated, but you know the type.
When you have “the workaholic” in the office, it is not a good idea to tell them to take a break. They will refuse one, and take it as almost an insult. The best thing you can do for this type, is buy them lunch. They will appreciate you for it.
The “Office Clown”
The office clown was probably once a class clown. They are always playing practical jokes, and making funnies. The office clown does not show favorites; if you have one in your office, they are bound to play a joke on you.
Just enjoy having the jokester around, they probably make your day brighter.
The Good Boss
A good boss is one that can display leadership, and know their staff members well. They are very professional, and even tempered. This type of boss is a very good boss for a person to have. They make sure the employees have a good work environment, and are quick at finding and fixing problems in the work place. If you are, or know this type, give yourself a pat on the back, you cannot be replaced.
The Bad Boss
This is the type that really does not seem to pay too much attention to professionalism, or does not know their employees too well. You might find them somewhere in the “in crowd” with the employees. They often just come to work to socialize and earn a paycheck.
This type of boss usually learns the “do’s and don’ts of the office sooner or later.
