The Pink Sleigh in Westbrook CT - A Magical Christmas Experience

Every once in a while, you stumble upon a store that makes you feel "magical". The Pink Sleigh in Westbrook CT could easily be missed, as it is a small brown cabin on the side of an obscure road nowhere near the center of town. There are hardly any windows on the building so you can't see the inside, but open the door and you enter a world that looks like a scene from the North Pole.

The ornaments

Inside the shop are hundreds, no thousands, of ornaments. Trees are tucked into corners and assembled according to themes. The first tree is full of glass dogs ornaments. Go a few feet and you'll be mesmerized by a blue and white beach themed tree. Delicate blue glass jellyfish everywhere! You can even buy a snowman made out of sand.

Then of course there are the traditional ornaments, trees full of cats, fishing, hunting, sports, music, teachers, babies, and everything in between. If you are unsure about what to get a relative or coworker, there is an ornament for anyone on your list here!

The decorations

Aside from Christmas ornaments, the Pink Sleigh has a myriad of decorations for the holidays. You can find Santas, snow globes, nativity scene animals, carolers, and snowmen galore. On the second floor are rows and rows of Christmas ribbon, wreaths, candles, and yes- even the Elf on the Shelf.

The owners do carry a few items that aren't Christmas related, such as Maristroka dolls and woodland animals. However, everything seems to take on the Christmas glow as it sits in the nooks of this adorable little shop.

The building

The shop itself is half the beauty. Like I said before, there are no windows. While this would normally be a detriment to a space, the number of twinkly lights and glittery ornaments makes the inside feel like a magical evening, even when it is 10 in the morning!

The inside has all wood exposed walls. Decorations sit on the bare studs and line every square inch of free space. To get upstairs, you have to duck under a wooden beam and climb a narrow staircase. It has a workshop feel and chances are, once you enter, you won't want to leave.

The details

The shop is only open six months out of the year, from 10-6 each day. You can expect it to open sometime in July and go through the end of the year.

Every ornament is carefully wrapped in pretty pink tissue paper and put in a box with their name and image on the top. They are located at 512 Route 153 in Westbrook CT, and the phone number is (860) 399-6926.

How many stars?

5 stars for The Pink Sleigh

The service

This family run business has been around for nearly 20 years. They are friendly, helpful, and sweet. Children are welcome into the shop but they make it very clear that the store is incredibly fragile and that unattended kids will be wrapped in pink tissue and returned to their parents upon their exit!

Make it a tradition

If you live in CT, I recommend that you make plans to visit this shop at least once a year. Prepare your children ahead of time by explaining how special and fragile the place is. Our kids love to visit the Pink Sleigh. Each year, they pick out one ornament to call their own. When they grow up, I'll pack up all their ornaments and pass them on to their families.

I hope the Pink Sleigh is still around for my grandchildren to experience. Support local businesses by visiting this beautiful store!
