The best free Auction Site: Listia

Updated on February 10, 2011

Listia Auctions

I am always on the lookout for cheap or free items from the internet. I am always finding sites that offer rebates and promo codes for $5, $10, $25 and sometimes upwards of $100 off of things like hotel rooms, household items, collectibles and entertainment items. One day I was doing a random search on the keyword free auctions and came upon the most interesting auction site I have ever seen. This site is called Listia, but before you go running off to examine it please keep reading. Listia works on a points based bidding system and is totally legit. I have won and sold items on here already within a couple weeks. It is very user friendly, but before you go off learning for yourself take the tips in this article to show you how you can win stuff basically for free.

Before I go any further, the reason I wanted you to keep reading is because the site does give you points for referring new members, but don't think that I am doing this for my benefit alone. If you use my referral link you will get an additional 100 points to bid with. You won't get these extra points if you just sign up on your own so please do use the referral link if you decide to sign up. Sign up is free. Listing is free. Winning is free. Sounds too good to be true doesn't it? Don't worry. I had the same thoughts myself, but the truth is that it is totally free.

The site works on a points system that allows them to make money also. They sell reward items also and accrue points which users have earned by selling and winning items on their site. There are no surveys or offer completions that have to be met to earn points. In fact, you can sell pretty much anything you want to sell. I have seen people selling my coke rewards even. You can sell game cheats, movie passes, coupons or anything else you can think of. Basically if you have it lying around the house, you can sell it on Listia. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

How to get points on Listia

As I said before you can get points by listing items, bidding on items, completing your profile and referring people that sign up and list auctions and complete them. I am going to insert my referral link, but please keep reading to learn more. You can join Listia by Registering here. Listia will also award you points when you complete 5 different steps which include updating your profile, connecting with facebook, connecting with twitter, watching a short 2 minute tutorial video and basically signing up. If you choose to only sign up for the site without my referral you will get 50, but why not use my link and get 50 more points. That's just the honest truth. You can visit the site before hand if you would like to confirm that statement. There is a statement on the site that says you can get 450 points just by signing up, but that is after you complete all of the requirements such as completing your profile and other things. You will still get 50 additional points by using my referral link, so you will be able to start with 500 without listing a single auction. Listia will also award you points for listing your first auction, earning badges, being active on their site (including bidding on auctions and winning and listing multiple auctions) and promoting them on blog sites or referring friends. Once you refer 8 friends you will earn an additional 800 points on top of the 200 points per referral which adds up to 2,400 points. That's right, you will get 200 points for each referral that signs up and lists an auction plus 20% of the points that their first auction sells for. So if they list an auction that sells for 200 points then you will get a total of 240 points just for them joining and listing an auction. You also get credits for different badges you win, but I haven't explored all of the badges yet. There are a total of 18 badges and I have earned 4 within a day, so that tells you how fast you can earn them. The badges include commenting, selling your first auction, selling multiple auctions, winning an auction, winning multiple auctions, having twitter followers, having 10 fans, referring 5 members and even simply signing in 7 times. So now that you know how you can earn points on Listia let's take a look at what kind of items you can list and win and what to expect.

What items sell on Listia

As I said before pretty much anything will sell on Listia. I have seen tie down strips, my coke rewards and even product samples sell. Just for an example of how much items sell I will list some items that have bids right now as I am writing this article. 1) Chipper Jones common baseball card = 50 points, 2) Redbook magazine one year coupon code = 129 points, 3) 2011 Dr Pepper EA games code = 202 points. This stuff is actually selling. Would you have ever believed you could get free stuff for a coke cap that you would have normally threw in the trash? People are active collectors of those codes and redeem them. So as I said before, even though you may not find it valuable someone else may.

Now those items I know are nothing to get excited about, but this site does offer higher end items. Those are just ones that were going off at 6:30 am in the morning. Listia, the auctions site, itself has what they call rewards auctions. In these rewards auctions there are items such as iPods, XBOX 360 consoles, DVDs and several other goodies. There are usually only 5 listed at one time, but there is always something different that is usually very appealing to most. These items range from 1,000 to 20,000 points, but don't get distressed over that. You can earn 20,000 points faster than you think. On my first day I earned 1,000 points without doing much at all. I didn't spend a lot of time on the site either. Maybe 30 minutes. Other sellers offer items such as iPods, video game consoles, sports cards and DVDs among other things.

Overall this is a site well worth taking a look at. Consider it. Use my link and if you don't like it then it's only a couple minutes of your time. You've already spent more than that by just reading this information about it. If you have any other questions please feel free to shoot me a question via hubpages or on comments. Once again you can join by registering here. It takes 1 minute. Thanks for reading and good luck.

Nice Hub! it's hard to start your own auction site as I have been running one for 2 years now. Ebay keep changing their prices and now I think that most users look down at them.
