Tony Buzan Introduces Mind Mapping and Here Are His Words of Wisdom..

Tony Buzan and his Mind Map

Let me introduce you to the inventor of mind mapping and brain storming - Tony Buzan.

Tony and his mind map tells you in the following video all about the principals around this mental technique.

What I am proposing that you do is learn this technique and apply it in the context of business ideas for small and large concerns.

It is here that you will be wise to start gaining insight into how you can obtain the right business doing what you love to do.

If you scroll down, you will find some rather exciting books written by Tony Buzan.

I strongly recommend these as an investment for ideas to business structure, plans and success.

Tony Buzan and Mind Mapping Explains it all... Now use it for Business Ideas!

Here is a classic example of how Tony Buzan would use his ideas of mind mapping or brain storming (Fig 1)

Mind Mapping by Colours and Symbolism

What is Mind Mapping and Brain Storming?

This is a visual thinking tool.  It is a way of symbolically representing ideas in a diagram format that will help induce a map or a route to a goal.  One small idea that stems from humble beginnings can develop into a whole project.  It is like having a seed and through triggers and associations can help to grow a tree.  The picture format can look like the merging branches of a tree, can help to bring order to the thinking process, provide solutions and ideas to projects.  This, therefore, gives a pictorial view and clarity to an idea or situation.  In the context of business and ideas, can be invaluable to success.

Mind mapping and brain storming ideas in this way resembles similarities to how the brain actually functions, thereby engaging people in the activity in a much richer manner.  This is much better than conventional linear writing or lists and is much simpler!

This is my brief definition, if you want to learn more, please click here for further information.

Empowering you to finding business ideas - right for you!

Now you have some idea as to what mind mapping and brainstorming is, you will need to have a starting point. It is here that you need to look at what you love to do. So start your mind map, you will see by my example, you start with a main topic. In this case it is ‘What Do I Love To Do?’. It is from here you can get ideas and build your map. I have 8 branches to this question. From the above picture, I have brainstormed the following mind map branches:

What Do I Love To Do?

  • I Love To Bake
  • I could Open a Café or Restaurant Or Open a Bakery OR Manufacture Specialist Foods.

What Do I Love To Do?

  • I Love To Shop For Antiques
  • I Know Lots About Old Things
  • I Could Start Up A Market Stall Specialising in Old Things OR I Could Set Up an Antiques Shop OR I Can Buy Things From Where I Live and Sell Elsewhere (Maybe Internet or City?).

My Mind Mapping Example (Close Up), You can see some irrelevant entries. Don't worry too much about this, it is the nature of brain storming!

-* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--*

Don’t worry if you create some silly suggestions - that’s the nature of brainstorming! As you can see in my mind map that there are some obscure ideas and some totally irrelevant! You can always re-adjust the map to more appropriate suggestions or simply ignore the thread!

Mind Mapping Free’s Your Mind to Create Business Ideas That Give Direction

Now you have a starting topic - something that you are interested in.  You will start to see what options you can create for yourself in the world of business and thereby make an informed choice.  You might even be overwhelmed with too much choice!

So what next?  Well, you can take your chosen idea and build a business plan around it.  By using mental techniques like this, taking the plan one small step further, you will achieve many leaps in the end.  These business ideas will give direction to your goal… to fulfil a dream of one day owning your own successful small or large business.  The results with mind mapping and brain storming techniques is infinite, just let your imagination free!

An example.  You have decided to open a bakery so you start your mind map as:

How Will I Open a Bakery?

  • Finance -->Bank Loan --> Apply For Business Account/How Much?

-->Savings -->How Much Spare Cash

-->Family/Friends -->Ask Parents/Auntie Jess/Laura Bigbucks

  • Equipment --> Cash Register/Counter

--> Oven

-->Kitchen Utilities à Bowls/Spoons/Knives

  • Premises --> Where? -->Town? à City?

-->Rent? -->How Much?

-->Purchase? -->How Much?

  • Staff --> Advertise

-->Word of Mouth?

--> How Much for Wages?

--> Experience

--> Attitude

--> Reliability

-->Contracts? -->References --> Time Issues

  • Marketing -->Advertising -->How Much?

-->Website -->Developer

Critisim Alert on Linear Format of Mapping!

Look how messy and disorganised this attempt at mind mapping is when written in a linear fashion! It is much simpler and easier to understand when constructed by an organised software program mind mapping design! The above examples are such a contrast, don't you think? may help you with this as demonstrated with the above diagrams. However, you don't have to have a software package to do this. As Tony Buzan demonstrates, using colours and freehand drawings can suffice. His books are really helpful and will assist you in learning a skill that you can create just with pencils and paper at any time of the day! So portable, eh? See Fig 1 for an example of this.

Buy Mind Mapping Software From Amazon!

The above diagam examples have been generated by computer software. I did this myself and found it incredibly easy to generate the map. The software allows you to concentrate on the thought rather than the 'artistic' side of drawing. For me this was beneficial - I have never been too patient with drawing - I would much prefer to bash out on the computer!

Here I have some software packages that I recommend - why don't you check out other people's reviews? What I will say here, is you have to bear in mind the level of computer ability that you are at and this needs to be considered when reading other's comments!

If you want business ideas for small or large concerns use mind mapping and free your mind... a summary.

Now you might have more of an idea as to how you can build your business ideas, expand and plan even further. This method helps people develop business ideas for small and large concerns alike at any stage of business development.

So to summerise:

  • Do what you love to do
  • Use a mental technique known as mind mapping to free your mind and gain business ideas for small and large concerns. This will help you discover which businesses you might be interested in persuing. Tony Buzan is the inventor of this mental technique.
  • Brains storming and mind mapping can help to open your mind. Success can be achieved by accessing your mind providing ideas for planning and ideas for future projects.
  • To create the mind map, you can use a program for mind mapping or paper and pencils. Software for mind mapping can create an organised approach, whereas paper and pencils are more portable and accessible.

Good luck with your business ideas and be happy!

      Thanks Michael. We have the information always within us, we just have to find ways to access it! Mind mapping does this effectively, especially when considering small business concerns.

      Wow what a tremendous amount of information on using Mind Mapping for coming up with business ideas.

      I think the most powerful part of this hub is when you show the messy layout of the linear list of ideas when starting up a bakery.

      When you compare that list with the mind maps in the earlier part of your hub there really is no comparison.

      That aside, I think you have presented a very good case to why using Mind Mapping is going to help develop some great business ideas.

      Thanks :-)

      Thanks morewrite. Patience is a virtue! Using mind mapping helps you access and expand your mind. It helps you create options that, without doing this exercise, you wouldn't have considered. It puts things in a logical order out of chaotic subconscious thoughts.

      Thank you for your comment:)
