What is the value of Social Media on marketing and promotion?

Check out my Hub called The Grant Cardone Social Media Contest.  It's fun to experiment with Social Media and see how it can effect a website and its traffic and more importantly it's business.  Is Social Media really as powerful a marketing tool as people say?  What are your thoughts and experiences with social media as a marketing tool?

Well it's instant, it's targeted and it's free!  Unless of course you go with paid ads... but if that's the case then it can be more targeted to your specific demographic.

Like on Facebook you can have your ads only show to people that are a certain age, gender, have a certain amount of education, have certain likes and so on... if you know your audience then you can save a lot by only being in front of the people who buy from you!

Social media is a beautiful thing because it's a great way to brand YOU and whatever you are promoting.  Also, the goal with social media is to build that immediate connection/relationship, making your prospects feel more welcome to whatever you promote.  Your prospect will much rather watch a video than read an article any day.  And, not to mention, most of the social media strategies are free.

Get more and higher converting traffic through social media than I do through any other method myself. I think it is the easiest and best way to connect with people.

But, the thing is some people get it and some people don't. its not about link building, or PR, its all about engaging people and building front line relationships, then referring people to a site highly relevant to their needs.

I know for a fact that social media is a very powerful marketing tool. The great thing about social media sites is the fact that you can drive free and extremely targeted traffic to anywhere that you choose. The two main sites that I have had a lot of success with are Youtube and Twitter. You can find so much out about someone just by looking at their profile. When you need more traffic for you site or you want to promote a product what better way than to find people that have shown that they are already interested in your subject?

I ran an experiment last year to drive traffic and make money online using Youtube and a piece of software to speed up the process and make it less time consuming. You can see the results of my experiment here:

Since I am involved in lead generation I simply view social media as a bridge above the gate keeper (secretaries) and it provides me the opportunity to connect directly with the decision makers.

For B2B it is a complete waste of time and can even destroy your web business if you are not careful. If you are selling common stuff that people can buy for their own use then it could be useful

Well there is an actual value to facebook fans or twitter. According to  measurement  Syncapse The average fan is apparently worth about $136.38, although for some very successful social marketers the value can be dramatically higher, while for some less successful companies it can be virtually zero.
