As an independent writer, how do you calculate the percentage of your household expenses?
For example, rent/mortgage, utilities, etc.
Only stuff you actually use for the business is deductible. Computer equipment is only deductible if its used for the business at least 50%.
You CAN do a home office deduction IF you have a room you dedicate entirely to work...but I've been told to avoid it as it's the fastest route to an audit there is.
