Simple *question*!: Why can't employers have a comprehensive WRITTEN COMPANY MANUAL?
Team hubbie, it was and is a good question. Please don't delete it because you think your image would suffer among the "average Joe" public. It is a DESPERATELY legitimate question and I WILL have it answered. Just because you NTs don't need the direction, procedures, rules, regs, policies, map, names and pictures of all staff, does NOT delegitimize a question from somebody who DOES need such clarity written down and adhered to by the letter. The question is legit, HP. Show some editorial leadership, integrity and cerebral facility. Do NOT fish for reasons to whack questions you dislike!
Companies can. Some do. A highly successful restaurant, YardHouse, is very rules based, and the rules are very well-written and clear. You may want to look for companies that implement the Capability maturity Model (CMM) at Level 4 or Level 5, or at least Level 3. To learn more about this, please read my hubs on CMM and Operations Management.
The main reasons companies don't is that they don't understand how much it makes sense to have good manuals and develop through Continuous Improvement.
Thank you for a very "industry" answer. That is a huge compliment and thank you, btw. The "silver lining" and "you'll catch on" is tired and quaint, and the latter flat out false. Do you hve any connections/thoughts wrt the "helping" professions?
