If the United States recycles One Hundred Percent of waste would their be less need for imports?
Contemplate the following:
The USA recycling all of its junk material and manufacturing it back into useful material for all of society.
The price of shipping would decline, as the material would not have to travel far from home.
More manufacturing jobs would open up.
Goods would be more reliable and of a better quality so long as the US maintained USA standards.
It's an unrealistic, idealistic goal, but yes; if 100% of Americans recycled all of their recyclables, used composting, and were all as "green" as they could be; many of the imports would decline.
However, that being said, there are plenty of things that you can't recycle that would still have a need to be imported. There would be a shift in other country production to match whatever demand there is for "exports".
Take goat meat for example. You can't recycle food products. There is a huge import of goat meat to the US from other countries.
I'm not sure why the cost of shipping would go down. You would still be paying the same price per pound to ship things. The tariff taxes would stay the same, there may just be less income from it, due to fewer items being shipped.
Jobs in recycling would increase slightly, however I don't think there would be an equal number of jobs created in the US as jobs lost in other countries over the "switch". It's not cut and dry like 10 Americans got hired to sift through the trash to find recyclable materials so 10 people from somewhere else lost their job...
Is it unrealistic if Mother Nature is able to recycle 100% of all creation? As Americans the ideal and our drive for the ideal defines us as a unifying culture among Man.
Do you have an example of an inorganic product that in not able to be recycled?

Republicans have repeated the lie that tax cuts are always good for the economy so often that all of Washington seems absolutely convinced that it's true. The conventional wisdom is so established on this that all a Republican has to say is, "Everyone knows you don't raise taxes in the middle...

Hard work will only get you so far if circumstances aren’t amenable. Do you believe that “If you’re still poor at 35, you deserve...

Will the United States ever embrace natural gas?It seems like a cost efficient way to resolve our problem with reliance on foreign oil, but it still hasn't caught on. Why isn't natural gas catching on in the U.S.?
