Are you here on HP strictly to focus on a writing career?

Or do you enjoy writing here because you find it fun, therapeutic, a place to meet other inspiring people, and because you enjoy learning from others?  Personally, I have learned so much from other Hubbers in the short time I've been here.  I am amazed at the detailed and professionally organized Hubs I read here on a daily basis.

That's how it began originally, but I quickly learned that I would not make money on HP with my style of writing....and then I met some incredible people who I now call friends....and then I realized that HP gave me an opportunity to practice my craft and build my platform.  About a year ago I realized what path I wanted to take and how to incorporate HP into that journey.  I love my friends here at HP; I'm not always happy with the HP staff, but I love HP.

I love to write, it's therapeutic for me. It would be very nice if doing this could be a career, but so far not even close. I'm going to keep going and learning how to be better and see where it goes. If I never get paid I won't see it as a waste, writing here has been a great experience.

It's therapeutic for me too!  It's funny how every where I've read about making money, it seems like many people make at least a mortgage payment.  I haven't found that same experience, but have made many friendships.

When I was in high school/college I daydreamed about becoming a rock journalist like the kid in the movie "Almost Famous," but that ship sailed a long time ago cuz now I'm too old for such nonsense, and current music sucks anyway. Haha.

So I come here to post goofy sh*t about my twin passions, those being '80s heavy metal music and cheap movies, because nobody in my immediate family has any interest in hearing about either of those subjects. Therefore I needed an outlet for all the nonsense that takes up way too much valuable real estate in my brain.

All of what you said.  I have always enjoyed writing.  I thought writing here would help me to improve and learn from others.  It was a great experience.  Toward the end of last year I had a health scare that sidelined me for a few months.  I am readying myself to begin again.  I do hope the HP community will welcome me back.  This community of writers is incredible.  Whether focusing on a career or pure enjoyment HP can't be beat.

    Thanks for asking the question.

I know exactly what you are going through.  I was in the hospital in Dec and didn't recover thoroughly until just before joining HP a few months ago.  Welcome back!

I enjoy writing and sharing my hubs to all   readers, it is what i like best, and feel most comfortable in letting out my thoughts whenever possible. Writing for me is more about sharing new ideas, on different topics, and also learning something new from each other.

I joined because I realised that due to my poor memory, I was figuring out how to do things and then forgetting and then having to relearn them years later. I wanted somewhere to publish these documents and HubPages seemed to fit the bill.

Of course, when I joined, I had dreams of owning my own Caribbean Island but quickly realised that it was never going to happen. My writing and also my publishing skills are 1,000 times what they were when I joined. I have learnt so much since I joined and really love HubPages and the people here.
