How far do you commute to work?

I drive 40 miles to work and though my car gets pretty fair gas mileage, I have to work one day just to pay for the gas.  Of course, I work only five hours a day and not 8.  What do you think?  How far do you commute?  Are higher gas prices effecting you?

I went to a job interview this week that is 50 miles, one way. The trip would take me through downtown Houston, which is a headache during rush hour. It would also cost me approximately $30.00 per day in gas. That equates to $150/week in gas costs and 500 miles per week on my car. I only had to take that trip one time to determine that it's not worth the cost.

Not to mention wear and tear on your car/miles etc.

I drive about 7 1/2 miles one way for my commute and it only takes me about 15 minutes. I consider myself lucky to be able to avoid most of the traffic because the bulk of my route is on the country two-lane roads. SO far, the gas prices haven't had that big of an impact because of the short commuting distance.

I work from home -- the door to my studio and office space is about 15 feet from my front door big_smile. That said, I do have to work about a half day a week (my days are 10 hours long) to pay for visitation switch-offs for my son -- a 150-mile round trip drive, done four times a month.
