I was in the firth grade, so probably about ten. I was a paperboy. Unbundled a stack of papers, folded them in thirds, and then stretched a rubber band around it holding it secure.
Delivered them with a bike. I tied my paper bag to the handle bars. The paper bag had two large pouches when worn over your shoulders hung in front and in back. Worked great from the handle bars except when turning. You had to hold your knees wide or they banged the hanging pouches. You could grab a paper and toss it while going zoom - zoom. Down hill was always a lot of fun.
Collecting was not as tough as many may think except during winter when it was dark. All that money in your pocket was noisy since it was quarters and such. I always got tips along the way. My parents let me spend the tips. My pay went into a Bank of America savings account.
