I only had one boss that I really got along with. I felt she was in control, but fair and willing to listen. I really admired her and did my best to emulate her as I moved into management positions. Ultimately however, I found that in many settings management becomes more about "micromanaging, manipulation and control" more than it does about oversight and bringing people together.
I decided to be my own boss eventually. No more people with ego's the size of Texas to answer to and no more people who didn't really want to be there to have to pick up the slack for ;).
