I don't know whether to be aghast or offer an odd giggle. I saw that on the news, but only heard the news host offer a description. Hearing the clerk I can't image the thoughts she had when he stated what he was going to do. Is that arrogance?
I don't know how anyone could overreact. Weren't they aware at the time of signing the agreement? I dun'no . . . I have heard/read horror stories of hidden fees. (I pondered and looked about before answering here)
For instance early check-in fees, maid gratuity added, and Wi-Fi service even if not used. The water bottles set out may not be free. Use the phone to call the front desk for a wake-up call and there is phone usage fee. Here is a quote from an article on hidden fees:
"Simply moving an item in the mini-bar can result in a charge because everything in that refrigerator is on a sensor. If you see a charge for something you didn't consume, show the hotel clerk that it's still there and contest the charge."
I have not been to a hotel or motel in over ten years. I was always taken aback then how much it cost to sleep. I am afraid today to even ponder the cost. (A quick peek shows 2014 average = $137).
