When I decided to leave a particular Government job and gave them two weeks notice I was 'ousted' to an annex where I was to spend the next ten working days sorting cards into file index order. My boredom quickly converted to sheer exasperation. This is mainly because this card system was already superseded and would probably be never used again. I was monitored to see I was actually doing this mundane work.
To this day, I'm of the opinion it was as a sort of 'punishment' for having the temerity to reject the earlier work to leave and go back to a former Government Department with it's NOW recognized and appreciated much more interesting work.
