No, because the value added tax is a sales tax added at each stage of the process (farm to processor, processor to restaurant, restaurant to consumer). It turns a 5% sales tax into 15% price increase. That raises a lot of money for the state at the price of consumers.
And adding a value added tax today on top of our income taxes and property taxes will kill the already stalled economy.
If we repealed the income tax entirely, I would accept replacing it with a sales tax. Add a new tax while keeping the others, even if the other taxes are promised to be lowered for a while, you know they'll up them all later. And that is unacceptable.
