I have a friend who does pretty well with microstock photo's but I personally have never tried. I think it's a hit and miss thing, but I don't personally yet have the talent.
I've been taking pictures for about a year now (Canon 40d). I spend most of my time shooting with a prime 50mm lens, as I hear that is a great way to learn how to better take pictures.
There is some truth to that. Not having the ability to zoom makes you work a lot harder. I do enjoy the 1.8 aperture compared to the kit lens.
