AVON Selling Tips for New Reps

Updated on July 5, 2017

What Are Some Tips For Selling Avon?

Fortunately there are ton's of Avon selling tips, both online and off, for getting more customers and building your Avon business. I'll be going over some of the techniques that I've personally used to help build a successful Avon business.

You've just signed up as an Avon Representative, received your kit full of brochures, samples and sales aids, and now you are ready to start selling. You ask your best friend, your mother and your next door neighbor to place an order, but now you are left scratching your head. What do you do now to find customers?

I won't be advising you to do anything that will take you out of your comfort zone (like standing outside a subway exit handing out brochures < yes I really read that on a forum) because you know what? That won't work, people will just dump your brochure in the nearest garbage can, as soon as you are out of their sight. And really - I was far too shy to do something like that anyway.

What I WILL go over are some of the tried and true selling tips that worked for me, so that you can be on your way to becoming a successful Avon rep that's actually making money.

I'll also be recommending some of the best Avon guides that contain different strategies, that will also help boost your income by providing some alternative ways to find customers and build your business.

So without further ado ...

Where Are You At With Avon? - New? Established?

Why do you need more selling tips?

See results

Online or Face to Face?

The first thing you need to estabilish is if you're going to sell Avon by giving brochures to friends and family, or if you are going to do it exclusively online.

If you are going to sell online, then you need to be careful of Avon's rules about what you can and can't say in regards to their brand. However, that isn't going to stop you sending people to your online store to buy from you. I've got some tips below about how to gain an online presence by creating reviews of Avon products or makeovers etc.

Tips on Selling Avon

Avon Selling Secrets Book

Avon Selling Secrets is a great guide for Avon Reps looking to increase their customer base and get more orders.

It contains seven main strategies for finding more customers and getting more sales. Each strategy outlines what you'll need (how many brochures/samples) and the expected outcome.

It also goes over the main issues affecting new Reps including:

  • When you should and shouldn't toss brochures, and what customer return it really brings you.
  • Tips on how to get customers to open your brochure.
  • The number one most effective method I've used to substantially increase my business in just a few months.

Step 1 - Evaluate Your Current Prospects That Might Buy Avon

Selling Tips for Starting Out

Usually the first thing you are told when you join Avon is to make a list of everyone that you know that might be interested in buying Avon from you.

At first I was unsure about this, after all, who wants to annoy your friends and family to buy things, but it is actually very good advice as people buy from people that they like (and presumably your friends and family already do like you!)

You can be non-pushy about this too. All you need to do is tell them that you are now an Avon representative and that if they ever want anything to let you know. Give them the current brochures when they come out, but don't be pushy about it.

More than likely, since they ARE you friends, they WILL buy from you. Just be friendly about it and don't let Avon be the only thing you talk about. So you could say something like, "Here's the latest brochure, let me know if you want anything this month, and now enough about that, what happened with Debbie, did she find out that her husband was taking dance lessons behind her back ...." (or something like that! LOL)

Avon Video Tips - How To Highlight Special Offers

In this video, Avon Representative Gail Reynolds shows you how to fold your brochure pages, so that the the special offers you want to highlight are immediately visible when you are handing them out.

This can help 'hook' the customers interest when they see things like 'free gift' or '50% off'.

Birdie Jaworski's book

Has got some good tips. and each tip has it's own page with a graphic so it's nicely laid out.

The tips are good, but it's the stories about Birdie's adventures that are the most fun to read (I used to read her blog, and it was hilarious all the adventures that she got up to).

Fun book!

Can You Do It?

Think that you can make an Avon 'product review' page?

Get Started Now!

You might review one of Avon's popular product ranges
You might review one of Avon's popular product ranges

Selling Avon Online

Review Products

On this type of page, you review a product, or range of products.

For example, you might make a lens about the Anew Reversalist Line of Skincare Products and call your lens Anew Reversalist Review (or something like that).

Then you can talk about each product in the range and your experiences / thoughts on it.

The best review lenses are truthful, entertaining and unique.

The Solve A Problem Page

The second type of page that does well is the one I call 'solve a problem'. The problem which obviously the Avon product is going to fix. So "how to smooth out wrinkles", "how to get rid of pimples" and so on.

You main focus on this type of lens is to talk about the problem, and then give solutions to solving it including recommending one (or more) Avon products that can help.

(With a link from the product through to your Avon website obviously!)

The best solve a problem lenses tend to be conversational and helpful (not salesy or spammy).

You don't have to try to sell any particular product, just offer it as a recommended solution.

If you are friendly and helpful you'll make many more sales.

Avon Selling Tips

Mother's Day Selling Tips

Mother's Day is the second biggest Avon sales period behind Christmas. So start thinking about your Mother's Day Avon selling strategies.

The Anew range always sells well at Mother's Day. Here are some Anew products that you can recommend to your customers.

For Young Moms who want to stop ageing before it happens:

- Anew Retroactive+ and Anew Rejuvenate

For Moms in their 30's who want to look 5 years younger:

- Anew Ultimate

For Moms who want to get rid of wrinkles and uneven skin tone:

- Anew Alternative

For older Moms who want a product that is super effective on ageing:

- Anew Clinical

Good luck with your Avon selling this Mothers Day!

Youravon.com Representative Tips

You probably know that you can have your own youravon.com website (now avonrepresentative website).

Make sure you put your web address on everything you send out: brochures, business cards, email signatures. You'll pick up many more customers who prefer ordering online and be able to work your avon business much smarter.

TraceyE, I love your Avon lens! I wish this ebook was around 10 years ago! I was a new Avon rep and struggled to build a business while I worked retail. Most customers were co-workers but the orders were to small to make a profit. I tried passing out brochures in my area but it didn't help generate the income I needed. Eventually, the business folded and I couldn't afford to keep it going. Plus, returns were always a hassle because I had to go to an Avon store and many times they were out of the products I needed. Making returns by mail took too long and my customers were not happy with that. I wish Avon had a better way of selling their products without the hassle of collecting payment and making home deliveries. I know that Avon now has an eRep website for its reps, but I'm sure they didn't have that 10 years. Though I'm no longer an avon rep I still buy frequently from it.

Oh wow. These are great suggestings for selling Avon. Our Friends of the Park is selling Avon right now for a fundraiser. I have our flyer posted on several of our lenses and have been promoting on FaceBook, too. One of our members is an Avon Representative so I will be sharing this page, for sure. Love the idea of making a lens. Maybe we will get a new lensmaster out of this. Hope so.

Please don't get discouraged. This will take a little time to build up your customer basis. This is what I do. you need to find a place where large number of people go every day, like a hosiptal or a favorite restaurant. The people changes every day, Pass out your brochures there when you have time. When you go to pass out your brochures put it in an Avon bag and put some samples in it if you have them. If you do not have your business cards yet,Increase Your Sales you can type up and print out this and include it in your bag with your brochures

@anonymous: No you absolutely can NOT give customers your email address. Methods of contact are only for representatives that wish to sell products to customers. Keeping any all forms of contact from the customer will ensure you fail and I will snatch up your customers.

I've just returned to selling Avon after being on Mat leave and designed my own website (www.shopavon.ca ) and have also contacted local centres (seniors centre, local businesses etc.) about leaving brochures for them or taking part in open house events, made car magnets for my vehicle and much more through Vistaprint.com (currently they have a 1month free trial for your own website). I've also created a facebook group Addicted 2 Avon (check it out or become a member). I've also been sending out postcards to local individuals in my area (again printed through Vistaprint) they have lots of FREE products to try out right now! I also contacted all my 'friends' on Facebook and received a lot of new customers... in total i have almost 50 customers in 1 month and $2000 in sales so far for 2 campaigns so i can't complain and YES i'm making money with it!! Also tag on your website or Online brochure link to your email signature!!

Yes, in the UK we are allowed to post through mail slots/mail boxes. Here is what I am doing for Christmas to boost my sales..... I am giving away the IPOD shuffle in a drawing to one of my customers. The catch is to qualify to win this IPOD, they have to buy at least ONE bottle of the new Christian Lacroix Absynth for HER. (Sell 5 get the IPOD for £10, Sell 20 get it for free). Id rather one of my customers have a chance at it than myself. SECOND; I will be giving away an AVON Gift basket. (Got to love the clearance section in Hello Tomorrow) Consisting of 10 AVON products and a gift voucher for future purchases. I made up postcard sizes flyers in which I leave in beauty salons, barbers (guys like cheap gifts for their women ::::sighs::::) laundrettes, bakeries, anywhere they will be seen. Its been 3 days and so far I have 27 NEW customers. I have only spent £25.00 TOTAL on my gifts. GOOD LUCK!! cheshier_cat1970@yahoo.co.uk

Just meet new people or talk to neighbors and coworkers you have'nt talk before. You can advertise yourself in myspace or twitter to friends or anyone. Be creative think outside the bubble. Save time and create a website for your avon and be polite and thankful for your customers because without them you wouldn't have a job.

You're not always encouraged to put them in letterboxes. It depends on the neighbourhood you get allocated. Mine advocates networking only.

do you buy books for every single person? if you do then you shouldn't. What you should do is let the person or people have them for 3-4days, then re-use

      Hi New Avon Rep,

It depends where you are from. In the US I believe it is illegal to put them in letterboxes but in Australia and the UK you are allowed (and encouraged) to do so.

      Hope that helps!

You don't even have to know how to sell. Have you completed all of your training classes? Does your upline assist you? Do you have a website? The trainings are a tremendous help. I can help you make money if you want. The tools and resources are right at your fingertips.
