How women should balance between business and family?

Updated on March 11, 2009

It is very challenging for a businesswoman to make a perfect balance between her business life and family life. For many woman, either work overshadows the home or vice versa. But there are some important rules you must follow if you want to run a successful business as well as create a loving family life.

First and foremost, it is important to articulate who you want to be. For example, one day you may wish to be more patient and more caring. Say this aloud and bring patience into every interaction you undertake.

Second, clarify to yourself your priorities regarding your work and family. Identify your high priority activities which will require more energy and time. So, obviously these are the areas where you will need to give a great thrust.

Write down your top three business goals for the week and the top three family objectives. Work around integrating these seamlessly into your everyday life for that week. You could draw goals for the month or the year. The point is that you must have the vision and an action plan.

And last but not the least; get help when you need it. Most women feel that they can do things on their own, that they have to prove a point to themselves as well as to the world around. This is simply not a very realistic viewpoint. By enlisting help when you need it, you will be doing yourself a favor. You must realize that you are not Superwoman and that things will get done better and quicker if you get some help.
