Traditional Marketing vs. Digital Marketing

Updated on June 3, 2015

What effects does traditional and digital marketing have on businesses? Which one is better and what actually is the difference between traditional marketing and digital marketing? These are all things we going to discuss.

What is traditional and digital marketing

What is traditional and digital marketing actually? Traditional marketing is usually preformed in print or offline. Examples of traditional marketing is print ads, billboards direct sales, TV, radio, mail and so on. Traditional has less interaction with their customer than digital marketing (Macraes Marketing Staff. 2014).

What is Digital Marketing

Digital marketing on the other hand is promoting brands and business though multiple forms of electronic media. Examples would be promoting ads though the internet websites, on social media platforms, mobile phones, game consoles and even electronic billboards (Raze Media. 2015).

Communication in Traditional Marketing

In traditional marketing communications happens only in one direction, in other words the customer receives the message of the brand or business and that’s it, there’s no fast way to communicate back to the brand or business. Communication in traditional marketing is more private, but takes longer to responds. This means business can be slower (Macraes Marketing Staff. 2014).

Communication in Digital Marketing

In digital marketing communication is a back and forth type of thing. The customer can engage with the brand/business and there’s multiple ways they can interact with each other. Communication in digital marketing is more public and makes up communities and the communication has a fast response rate. Thus business is fast and interactive (Macraes Marketing Staff. 2014).

Cost of Traditional Marketing vs Digital Marketing

The cost of traditional marketing can often way more expensive than it is for digital marketing. Launching an advertisement in traditional marketing will cost you printing cost while launching an advertisement in digital marketing the only thing you require is a text editor and a channel to run your advertisement through. It’s much more affordable to use digital marketing for your business. But both have their relevancy (Raze Media. 2015).The cost of traditional marketing can often way more expensive than it is for digital marketing. Keep track of your results

In traditional marketing it’s difficult to keep track of your results and if your promotions and advertisements has any impact. But in digital marketing you can track your results without any effort and you can optimize your promotions and ads base on the data that you receive (Raze Media. 2015).

Targeting your desire audience in traditional marketing and digital marketing

Targeting your desire audience is one key concept that you have to use in marketing. Traditional marketing relies on a broader audience than digital marketing. Making use of tradition marketing you have very little control over who sees your advertisements or who you market towards. In digital marketing you can zoom in on your target markets demographics and seek them out to the smallest detail. Even “stalk” them by following them around on the web (Raze Media. 2015).

Older Generation Marketing

Traditional marketing offers a way to reach older generations that isn’t tech savvy like the newer generations. But even the older generation is adapting to technology and in time everyone will be tech savvy eventually. Technology is becoming an integrated part of our lives. This is where digital marketing will start to excel in (Raze Media. 2015).

Digital Marketing Develop an Identity and a Personality

Digital marketing has allowed businesses to develop an identity and a personality way faster. Digital marketing has allowed businesses to reach wider audiences in less time, but this also means more competition (Rubenstein, R. 2014).

A final word

Traditional marketing is gradually moving out and digital marketing is taking its place. I believe that there’s something traditional marketing can offer that digital marketing can’t, and that’s realness. There’s something about being able to touch an advertisement or product that feels right. But soon even virtual reality will come into play. Who knows we may be able than to test out and feel products even before we buy it in a virtual world.
