How to Email Ebay Customer Service

Updated on November 22, 2012

Finding Ebay's Email Address... secret instructions*

It took me 35 minutes of waiting around on Ebay Live Help to find the instructions on how to email Ebay!!

I don't think you should have to tie up your time, so here are the instructions that Ebay Live Help gave me.

By the way, Ebay live help gave me this info because they couldn't solve my problem!!

Why does Ebay make it so hard to contact them?

I don't think that it should be so hard, so here it is, making it simple for you!

If you buy on Ebay, you are helping Ebay's business. On the occasion when you need help, you should be able to get help too!

* These instructions aren't really secret. I probably could have found a page with the email ebay button on it by looking around ebay for hours more, but why should YOU have to waste your time?

2/8/2011 - Ebay changed things yet again

So my directions no longer work. Therefore, I think you should follow the link below to directions that DO work.

Poll for All Ebay Users!

Do you find it hard to contact Ebay Support?

See results

This is what it says on the page that has the Email Ebay button. - Strange that customer service has to direct you to this page, isn't it?

Contact Ebay Page
Contact Ebay Page

And if you actually read the text on this page, Ebay encourages you to enter your query below if you have a general question about Ebay and your account....

But if you enter your question below, you might get the run around again! Lots of questions, but no answers that work for you!

I've been there!

Vent Your Frustrations Here! - Please no links and no curse words.

I have contacted eBay 3 times about a store category issue and they have said that they don't know and they will make a note in my 'file' and send it to tech support. That was 2 weeks ago. Still having the same problem. I would like to e-mail them a screen shot but- You can't email them!?!?! WTH?? Every time I call them, I can't understand them because they have outsourced their support. Why eBay WHY???????

A buyer didn't pay for an auction and I followed up through resolution. Still no payment YET I AM NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK! Ebay makes their money from sellers but cater to buyers in every way. Little support for sellers. I have over 1000 positive feedback and Im through with ebay. This irritated me to no end. Transactions involve 2 parties...how dare they don't allow me to honest feedback about this buyer! Im done

The buyer changes his address as an after thought after I have already mailed his item. As usual eBay stands rigidly by the customer who is pissing mad about the length of time his item s taking to be delivered. All my fault, says eBay, but the twit customer, who moved 6 months ago, had put in a change of address and received his item a little late but intact. I despise the fact that eBay always takes the buyer's side in any dispute. They will get no more of my business for a while if ever. I am tired of giving 10% to a company that doesn't have my back.

eBay has become a real nightmare. A buyer received the item, almost destroyed it and then has claimed it was not as described. As a result, eBay has frozen that payment and even thought it has been weeks and weeks, still no action on the case. They don't give you any real options to contact them and just leave you hanging out to dry as a seller. Does anyone have an email address where I MIGHT be able to get my problem in front of a real live person?

Am fed up with Ebays feedback policies, they are one sided to the buyer, seems that you can leave negative feedback for no good reason if you are buyer and seller can do nothing about it, ebay just degrades your rating with no question who is right or wrong. I believe from now on I will just ignore filling out feedback pages.

Now they are charging final value fees on shipping! I charged a flat rate of $65 to ship a saddle. Unfortunately it cost $87 plus the cost of packaging for a total of $129 and now Ebay wants another $6 of my money on top of the standard final value fee??? WTH? I am done with Ebay selling.

EBAY IF YOU ARE NOT ACTUALLY GIVING EBAY MONEY AT ANY GIVEN TIME ANYTHING OTHER THAN THAT EBAY JUST DOESN'T CARE!!! WHETHER YOU'RE WASTING TIME TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO EMAIL EBAY/WHICH YOU WON'T FIND BECAUSE EBAY DOESN'T CARE ABOUT BUYERS ANYMORE, ONLY SELLERS GIVING THEM MONEY AND IF YOU CALL THEM BE PREPARED TO SPEND ABOUT 40 MINUTES AND TELLING THE SAME THING TO 3 OR 4 DIFFERENT PEOPLE AND ALL YOU'LL GET IS "I'M SORRY" AND WHEN YOU HANG UP YOU WON'T HEAR THEM BUT EBAY SUPPORT IS LAUGHING LIKE CRAZY. PLUS NOW THE ONLY WARNING YOU CAN GET ON EBAY IS THE FEEDBACK ABOUT A BAD SELLER, WELL, NOW EBAY TO MAKE MORE MONEY IS ALLOWING THE BAD SELLER TO PAY EBAY $170.00 TO TAKE THEIR BAD FEEDBACK OFF, HOW RIDICULOUS IS THAT!!! GO WHERE EVERYONE IS GOING, AMAZON THEY CARE AND THEY WILL REALLY PROTECT THE BUYERS

we are janusxxllc a 13 year power seller entity, we have had a recent problem with not as described items, the first and only time in our 13years of 99.8% selling one of a kind items, ebay has seen fit to advise paypal to hold our funds up to 3 weeks, my wife very ill and as we are senior citizens depend on ths lifeline of funds to pay medical bills etc, last friday spoke to "JAMES" and told him of our problem, he stated a representive would call us within 24 hours, STILL WAITING!!!!!, you are a terrible company without an ounce of humanity, appears our 13 years of loyal selling mean nothing to you money grabing vultures, have now cut my listings in half and intend to ultimately leave for good, seems to hold my few hundered dollars is worth more to you than the thousands paid over the course of a year, keep up the wise business decisions and a job well done !! unhappy in las vegas janusxxllc richard carson !!

@anonymous: A similar thing happened to me when I sold something. I had over 400 feedback at 100% and this person claimed what she bought was a knock off wallet. In the description I said I did not know if it was genuine so you are buying it as is. I don't take returns back as I am just selling to make some extra money and don't want the hassle of returns. Well Ebay took the side of the buyer who only had 2 feedback. I called Ebay and said what about your long time loyal customers, don't I have a say in the matter? She left a negative since I would not take returns but I clearly had it listed properly so yes, it was a chance the wallet was genuine or it could have been a very good knockoff and since the item was not mine to begin with I stated that as well, that it came from an estate sale. Ebay said more or less too bad and that it is unfair for a new user to not have credit. I had some Ebay clown that worked there and just started selling on Ebay so he didn't have a lot of feedback himself. I told him I worked hard to maintain the 100% and was proud of my record and now someone is leaving a negative and can they remove it as it is a matter of opinion on the wallet. She apparently took it to her sister's 2nd had store and the sister said it was a fake. No authentication to prove it on her case, it was just a buyer's remorse. Ebay did nothing and it took a year for the one negative to get removed. When I emailed the CEO John Donahoe, I got a curt reply not to email him. I emailed him later this year about their new policy of buyers not paying and how you can't leave a negative for non payment and again someone in his staff sent me an email and said 'we told you last year not to email him" Like that is going to stop me. It is a free country to speech. So if anyone wants to email him it is: john.donahoe@ebay.com. But don't be surprised if it doesn't go to him but some low entry clerk who will respond and not listen to the complaint but just tell you to call the toll free number and not to email the big important guy. No wonder a lot of sellers are no longer selling on Ebay. Feebay is their new name and they are useless to help you. The worse customer relations or service department ever.

I have been selling on Ebay for years. Recently a buyer emailed me telling me she received some items from my store and that (her) trying to fix them she ruined them more than they were when they arrived, So, being that she altered them from the original point, I knew I did not have to refund her money. Even still I told her to send them back to me and I would. She ended up filing 5 cases on me and after a month they got resolved. The resolution was she got reimbursed for all of the items and I did not have reimburse her Ebay did. I am so ticked off beyond belief she should have returned them to me and I get my product and she gets her money. Instead WE THE SELLERS have to pay HIGH COSTS to sell stuff on Ebay just for ebay to turn around and pay these buyers. Ebay should have made her return the merchandise and allow me to refund her money, I would have rather done that then had ebay pay her back and my FEES get JACKED UP!!!! I am so sick of Ebays crap and I have a huge inventory and need to find another source of selling my items online at a high traffic area can anyone help me with ideas please?

@anonymous: I emailed John Donahoe twice about their policy and how now buyers don't have to pay and you can't leave a negative feedback. In all the years of buying and selling on Ebay, I had 1 case not pay. Last month I had 4 or 5 people not pay and there is nothing Ebay does for the seller. You can't leave a negative either. So when I sent John the CEO an email, I got a reply telling me not to email him anymore. I replied and said I will email who I want and if Ebay isn't going to assist with non payment issues, then John Donahoe has to be made aware of this new policy where you cannot ruin a buyer's record by not being allowed to leave a negative. And forget calling the toll free number as it takes you to the Philippines and the static and background noise of other callers talking so loudly, I was just disgusted with Ebay in general. I nicknamed them FeeBay.

EBAY BY FAR A MONOPOLY WHEREAS THEY HAVE BECOME DICATORS. YOU CAN'T EMAIL THEM.

YOU CALL AND HANG ON FOR A LONG TIME. NEW RULES KEEP COMING ALMOST EVERY WEEK. I THINK EBAY THINKS EVERYONE IS A FULL TIME BUSINESSMAN AND HAS THE TIME TO SIT AND READ ALL OF THE THINGS ON HOW TO SELL. HOW TO THINK. MORE AND MORE.

I THINK SOMEBODY UP THERE WITH A BRAIN SHOULD GET WISE AND TRY AND KEEP GOOD EBAY SELLERS OR THEY WILL FIND THEMSELVES IN TROUBLE AS SOMEBODY WILL COME UP AS A COMPETITOR.

I hate the EBay/PayPal duo. Together the contrive to loot us of our money. Use BitCoin for payments instead. EBay has a lot of hidden fees and is not transparent at all.

EBay and PayPal are utter scammers. They tried to loot my account. During Christmas the offered free ads to be hosted but you had to give EBay access to your PayPal account. I hosted a couple of ads on EBay but did not sell anything through them. Yet they then tried to deduct VAT through Brussels from my PayPal account which I quickly closed. Robbers! I suggest people used BitCoin instead of PayPal if they need to pay someone. You can read about BitCoin here http://www.weusecoins.com/

I too left ebay recently. I had a feedback rating of 100%, but I left. The FEED, the SCAMS, the PayPal scam, the cost of shipping and lack of support drove me away. eBay bought into Craigslist too, just plain evil. Years ago a friend said "eBay is the devil". That's giving them too much credit. Corporate eBay is heartless rich people using the masses to get richer and is lame to the core. They use our money against us if we let them. I closed my eBay and PayPal accounts. Next on the chopping block is Craigslist, bummer for CL.

Been buying and selling on eBay close to eleven years... 100 percent positive feedback, etc. On

Nov. 27 2012 someone bought an antique pocket watch and paid via Paypal. Watch was delivered on

Dec. 1. This buyer emailed me to ask for a return address on Dec 9. I gave it . No, I did not ask for the reason. On Dec 12 got an email with a USPS tracing info. On Dec 13 I emailed the buyer to tell him I was going to be away for few days, but not wanting him to wait no more than necessary, I was going to send him his money early -- meaning before I received the returned item. not knowing this flake and both ebay and paypal has the same motto: No good deed shall go unpunished!

My watch arrived the next morning.... Broken and some stuff missing as well as the casing screws. So

nothing to hold the movement fast in its case... its rattling like the brains of eBay workers. I immediately emailed the buyer to tell him I hoped he was not going to claim that is how he received the watch and

I was going to get in touch with the eBay and register a complaint to recover my loss. He never replied.

On Dec 15, he filed an "item not received as described" complaint. I replied to ebay's email telling me that with a time lined and detailed info. the entire thing. I will bet you they never even read anything in

that--- they decided the buyer's claim was true-- but no one from ebay replied to my "How did you conclude that?" After whole bunch of nothing .....I decided to repair the watch and re-sell it..... You

had to be with me to see my surprise when i looked up the movement serial number to order parts

That flake had switched movements--took out my running movement, replaced with a same make and

model broken one, and set it back for a refund...... AND eBay did nothing.....still doing.... wouldn't even

reply.... I got a reply and reimbursement for the damage after I went and filed a complaint about them

with the CA State Attorney General's Office, Federal Trades Commission and BBB of Silicon Valley

Those idiots just don't give a damn about about buyers or sellers who are putting bread on their tables.

I am finished with eBay and Paypal both but save one thing: Do I need to be elected as a President

or elevated as Pope to be worthy of a reply from them? Look.... I am an old man. I was not selling on

eBay or receiving payments via Paypal because I was in love with them..... I was trying to supplement a

modest retirement pay.... But since I managed before eBay, I will manage agaIn.

I hate EBAY!! HATE HATE HATE! What a horrible company to deal with... I am done, I tried printing the USPS labels and they didn't print so I hit void and I still got charged on paypal... I spent (WASTED) so much time trying to click on this and click on that and nothing helped me. NO direct email, phone -- ebay will not talk to anyone... Customer service is nasty... Don't ever sell on ebay -- the fees are horrific and I had nothing but problems... Buying is ok... Still HATE THEM !!!!! HATE HATE HATE.... Did I mention I hate them?

I typically use ebay for purchases. I have sold several items on their site but I have NEVER been charged almost $100 to do so!! Has anyone else encountered this problem? Yes, I did change passwords on both accounts because I don't know if they were compromised or not.

I was a power seller for 10 yrs, a seller for 12 yrs total. My sister went into kidney failure and my father was dying of Alzheimers. I had one bad month during the worst time of my life, and got 4 negatives which never happened before ever. Because of that one stupid month, I was restricted with selling limits for over a year. My scores improved dramatically and my Feedback was almost 100%. Then after all of that, after 12 yrs of selling with no problems with ebay ever except then , I got suspended forever from selling right out of the blue. I sell on Etsy now, and its great! Ebay hates sellers, and they don't care about us at all. Can't get hold of them, the phone reps are a big joke and help no one. It is a company that has no heart, no mercy, and will not give you second chances, even if you beg them, and are an honest person. If you're thinking of selling on ebay, don't. It will be a huge mistake.

It's hard to imagine any company having worse customer service than Verizon (who actually seem like they are trying to prove). eBays customer service is a sick joke. You call, they put you on hold & then they either try to transfer & do not know how to work their on phones or they deliberately hang up on callers. I have called 7 times for the same issue & each time i must ecplain the same prolem again they assure me that everything has been fixed. It never is.

@anonymous: Had the same thing a few years ago. I've been around on ebay for a while but now am directing my purchases to Amazon.com more and more. And I had enough cases to proof this.

I purchased two Android tablets and finally filed a claim through ebay because seller did not reply to my emails about tracking number; strange enough I could not find the purchase details of the purchased items too in ebay's website. Finally ebay decided to issue me a refund but they only did refund HALF of it. Trying to cntact ebay and paypal but unable to, the automated systems keep me turning around in circles and saying that the case is already closed? How can the case be closed if I did not receive the items and was only partially refunded? NO WAY to get through. Tried to call them (international) but that is painstaking too. Worse of all, two people are stuck for christmas without their present (tablet)... am I going to be the losing one here....?

Ebay is awful for buyers, confusing and conflicting advice, no real help at all and leaves me feeling thoroughly pissed off. I bought 2 phones from a seller based in China, selling through ebay.com (USA) but I logged on and searched from ebay.co.uk. The items never arrived but i gave the seller the chance to sort it by resending items. Guess what? Never arrived!!! Contacted ebay.co.uk, couldn't help at all because i'd bought through ebay.com. Contacted .com, couldn't help because I was outside the 45 day protection period. Oddly, the sellers ebay ad says items can take up to 45 days to arrive.

So, i'm down 80 USD and no one can help, + other buyers can't be warned because i'm not allowed to leave feedback either.

There is a promotion running currently for 500 free listings, and I keep getting billed for each one! I tried to contact service but all they would tell me is "I don't know why you are being billed for these". I am so done with call centers located in foreign countries that do absolutely nothing to help! Good luck trying to e-mail them, it rarely works.

eBay is so full of glitches. If I could make money on another selling site like I do on eBay, i'd be gone. Now, they can't get my billing correct and are taking money when they shouldn't. it's so frustrating that I'm crying right now.

Member-to-member contact policy - This policy is being rolled out to make it even harder for members to contact one another - I think it is really bad that Ebay is so worried about individuals buying direct that they are trying again to limit communications - now between members. What they don't understand is EBay by nature should promote cheaper prices than what you would receive on a persons site. Another thing to note is that other sites such as Amazon promote business interaction and know that shoppers will still use Amazon even if their members have access to a sellers site.

@anonymous: I have been a buyer on ebay since 2007 & a seller since 2009, I have 100% feedback score and I've just had my buyers account UNFAIRLY suspended for 3 MONTHS. Ebay claims that I left low dsr's to intentionally hurt other sellers. This is unbelievable! I am still in shock. I called eBay and was told by one of the customer support 'robots' that I can not appeal this decision! In other words to-bad-so-sad, the all mighty powerful 'oz' has spoken and you are now banned!

To top it off, my 'ebay bucks' certificate just arrived today, Oct.3rd, it expires on Nov. 2nd and I'm suspended until December! I earned these bucks and don't think it is fair that I lose them... especially since I was unfairly suspended! I'm being punished for being honest and leaving honest dsr's... I do not leave negative or neutral fb, I don't feel they deserve it unless they screw up very badly in all catagories, but I do leave HONEST dsr's, if a seller deserves a 1 or 2 in a certain category, then I leave them a 1 or 2. If I receive a broken item or a package takes 20 days to get to me from within the US then yes, I will leave a low score in that category, but Ebay is saying that I left TOO many low scores and that I left them to intenionally HURT other sellers, this is an outright lie & I can't even appeal? What I'd like to know is how many is TOO many? If you leave honest scores then how can ebay say it's too many? I still can't wrap my mind around this one.

So, I'm just wondering who else this has happened to and if they have tried to appeal, or how I can email the right person/department at ebay so I can try to get some answers to my questions that are not just read from a script, & at least try to appeal this unfair suspension! Any/All help is appreciated! Thanks for letting me vent!

@anonymous: I totally agree - recently I had a CROOK lie to my face about an item he was supposed to send - was part of a package - just sent the cheapie part - Anyway ebay "resolved the issue in my favor" by asking me to return the worthless piece of $|-|1t WITH TRACKING - it would have cost me TEN TIMES the cost of the item... Was a convenient great swindle for crooked sellers! So after much search I found this phone number 866-540-3229, talked to customer service and they gave me a voucher. Hope it helps!

Ebay charged me a 'fine' type fee of £5.00 for not paying 'sellers fees' quick enough. The reason why they had not been paid was because the automatic fee payment facility had been taken away from me by them, just because I wasn't selling with them as much as they would like!!!. I was not informed of this removal,- hence the non -payment. This episode is a money making racket by ebay. I feel cheated and conned by their actions on this. I have asked for a refund of the £5.00 on the above basis. The only reason why I have paid is because if I don't,- well you can guess what will happen then. So sod ebay.

Contacted ebay, they requested a return tracking- I emailed back.

Now, ebay closed the case stating they never received the tracking # and would not refund my account, of course seller is not responsing.

Question- how is this a guarantee?? how am I protected? I provide what they need and say they never got the tracking? I have proof and they don't care anymore because the case is "close"

@anonymous: One solution to this is to make sure that the seller requires signature upon delivery. That should hopefully prevent mail delivery errors. As the seller, I have had this problem, and I did send a replacement to the buyer when the first one was misdelivered, but because of this problem I now use Fedex instead of USPS and often require signature.

When I contact eBay they tell me that it is delivered to a wrong address and after helleling me for more the 3 weeks eBay close the case on sellers favour. This is what I sent to Ebay today:

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Ebay create a feature that will prevent this:

I am a long time U.S. Ebay seller and like most U.S. sellers, we will only ship to the U.S. But many times my auction (which will have many watchers and bidders btw), will end early do to someone usually in Asia purchasing my item clearly ignoring in my item description "U.S. SHIPPING ONLY". Or sometimes they will buy it and then send me a message saying "please forgive me. I did not mean to buy that, cancel my purchase". So then I have to re-list that item, lose all my watchers and bidders, and pay the listing fee AGAIN. You guys need to somehow create a filter in the listing interface that will not let international users touch U.S. only auctions. PLEASE.

      Thank you

I have a brand new friend who just arrived here in the States from Turkey, where she had been living as a refugee from Iran for seven years. We enjoy drinking Turkish coffee together and she admired my collection of tea and demitasse sets. I showed her how I like to look at them on eBay and sometimes buy some. She saw one that she loved and I tried to purchase it for her using my account, she was going to give me the money because currently I'm broke. Well... seems my account is all messed up because apparently eBay selling is a completely separate entity from buying. I tried to sell something after like nine years since last time I tried to sell something. I had absolutely no clue whatsoever $6 that when my bank assured me that my eBay and PayPal was all square that in fact it wasn't. I don't have a computer anymore, only this old iPhone I got for cheap. Anyway, my friend didn't get a very good first impression of the marvels of eBay I'm sorry to say. I've already spoken to customer service, and I'm confident this will all get straigtened out but still confused as to how eBay sent notifications to an old email address that I haven't had for quite a number of years, and the selling info is different than the buying info in my account.

Good morning. I have had two experiences with ebay this year and both have had problems. In November I bid on and got a mantle. Over two months later, the seller had not sent the item. Only after my son got involved and made arrangements for shipping did I receive it. The sellers seemed to only want to do business with people within their state or region. IF a seller does not want to sell to someone in another part of the country, that should be specified on their info.

Then I bid on an item last week and put in the final bid, confirmed bid, and then find out I did NOT get it. I have emailed, to no avail, and wanted to understand why I was not the winner. It registered on my email that I was the last. No answer from you. Not a good way to encourage future participants nor is it businesslike. I am disappointed, not angry. Thank you.

@anonymous: It's a shame that you've stopped buying or selling on Ebay. Despite their problems with customer service, I still like the site. I sell and buy on Ebay. It is still a great place to find obscure stuff - it just takes a little more digging. Since I like Ebay, I honestly hope that Ebay sees this page and makes it easier for people to call or email them and get real solutions. I was going to start selling with a new account but I ran into a problem and it wasn't worth my time trying to contact Ebay customer service to fix it. I can only imagine how much business Ebay has lost because of this happening. Sending out enticing offers, like "list for free" only goes so far.....

E-Bay used to be a great place to sell. Many regular people selling things. Today, it is a full on Retail Market place, and a few regular people still selling. You used to be able to send money orders, or other payment options. The, E-Bay buys PayPal and now you are forced to have a PayPal Account for any payments. The pricing is as much if not more than just going to the store in your area. There is ZERO Customer Service, and disputes are always settled where E-Bay and PayPal make out best. I stopped selling or buying from E-Bay, and never will again.

@anonymous: I'm with you on this s**t. What the hell are they thinking catering to buyers (who don't pay any fees). And where do they get off holding my money for up to 21 days (not even giving me the shipping cost to send the item). Yes I could get my money sooner if I jump through their hoops. I'm ready to find a web designer and make a REAL auction site that actually protects the buyer and has good customer service. Anybody up for that? Also, not sure if anyone else is aware of this but, Etsy is going down the same road. They are putting a new Express cart in place which will hold sellers money for up to 21 days and plan to remove the PayPal option in the future. Guess what? eBay owns PayPal and Bill Me Later, and Etsy owns Facebook. They should just fight it out and stop messing with our businesses.

Topic:PayPa'sl unauthrized 21 day hold of my, and other users, funds.

Can you imagine Wells Fargo implementing a similar policy and withholding ones deposited funds for up 21 days until their credit cards, utilities, etc., were paid and the transaction completed? They'd be out of business in a week. Or theyâd be sued out of business shortly thereafter, which is my hope for PP.

I never authorized PP to withhold MY money for any reason whatsoever. I've been selling the exact same two items on eBay for many years without a problem. All of the sudden you have to withhold MY money. I never authorized PP to do this. I would love to know the name of the genius who came up with this idea.

PP has instantly gone from providing all that is right with e-commerce to creating a practice that turned it into all that is bad about e-commerce.

I'm looking for alternative payment options for my eBay customers such as Google Checkout and Direct Pay.

I've cut and pasted PPâs terms of use and sent it to the CA Attorney General and Secretary of State for review and asked them if it's legal for PP to do this. Hopefully in this case illegal and stupid converge.

Just want to do my tiny little part to start a class action suit or thousands of small claims court cases across the country against PP for unnecessarily holding MY, and countless others, money hostage and damaging my ability to perform best business practices for my eBay (in essence, your) customers.

Iâm posting an easy 1-2-3 steps link for filing a small claims case against PP on all social media outlets for everyone that has had this done to them and is not happy about it. It varies from state-to-state, but is generally quite simple and cheap to file.

Hope it was worth it, PP.
