    What is delegation and why do some managers have difficulties in delegating authority?

      some wouldn't like to delegate task because they are scared to fail, they don't trust their subordinates and want to do it all alone so that it is faster (in their own opinion), but in the end they will be exhausted

      The ability to manage people and time, to accomplish tasks.
      Because- (a)lack ability, (b)lack knowledge on "how-to", (c)fear of taking charge and (d)lack insight to determine who is best for what position.

      Many leaders have issues delegating because they believe that they lose control, and control is something they need to feel that they have.

      Then there's those who believe (or know) that the other person would actually do a better job than they do, which threatens their ego/self-esteem/job/security/and so on.

      And then there's those who keep hold of work because of they delegated they might have to go find some other useful work to do, the sort of work that requires greater effort or perhaps is something they feel less able to undertake.

      In short, leaders don't delegate for (irrational) fear of the possible consequences.

    Delegation is the act of tranferring duties or responsibilities to others in order to balance the work load.  It helps by taking some of the pressure of just one person and also gets the rest of the 'team' involved making everyone feel useful and responsible.

    Some people have a hard time delegating because they are over-stressed and/or struggle with perfectionism (aka OCD).  More often than not, success is very important and they live by the rule "if you want something done right, do it yourself."

    Of course there is also the person who refuses to delegate because they want all the credit.  Either way that person loses in the end because they are shouldering too much responsibility causing stress for themselves, a degredation of morale within the 'team', and sometimes a lack of respect from their superiors who expect them to be able to delegate.

    There are also some managers/supervisors who were trained improperly and are now unsure of whether or not to delegate which tasks or responsibilities.

    Also remember that delegation does not transfer accountability, so the person who delegated will be held responsible for the final product good or bad, even if they physically didn't do anything.

    Often people who can't delegate don't know how.  Managers are often promoted to their position because they were good at some task or task set. They were "doers" that become managers.

    Management is NOT about doing, it's about TEACHING and SUPERVISING.  It is difficult for a perfectionist (as Chaotic Chica was getting at) to let others do things when they could do it better and faster.  However, as a manger the point is NOT to do it better and faster, but to teach someone else how to do it at all.  Once an employee learns a task (which often means taking far longer to do the task WITH them for the manager than he or she could have done it alone), then that manager has an employee that can do that task.  That employee will get better and faster with practice and continued SUPERVISION and guidance, until they are able to do a great job of it alone.  THEN the manager is free to do other things (usually making other employees able to do things).  A good manager in an ideal situation will have NOTHING to do at some point (in a manner of speaking).

    Delegates are very similar to 'pointers to functions' in C and C++

    First we create a delegate, then we can assign any function that has a similar prototype of the one which we have specified with the delegate.

    Declaration:

    public delegate int Dlg(int x, int y); //where Dlg is the name of Delegate

    Create Object:
    when we need to create a 'Delegate object' (i.e. a pointer to a function which has a specified prototype)

    Dlg d1=new Dlg(function_name); //if the class is in some other class use 'class_name.function_name'

    function_name->has to be the name of a function which receives two integers as arguments and return an integer

    Invoking function:

    int res=d1(20, 20);

    Delegation & How to Delegate - Is a quality of being a leader and you distribute task to your team members. Or you can look at your own household with family. You as the Mother and Father you delegate to each other and your family members.

    Delegation is more like assigning functions to a group of people in order to finish a project on time. the problem of managers delegating authority has to do with the fact that some managers do not have leadership skills. For delegation to work, you must understand the capability of your workforce so that you dont delegate wrongly. Furthermore, some managers have this "i can do it myself" attitude because they beleive that if you want something done, you have to do it yourself.
