Who can share the thought on how wikipedia has been surviving without advertising.
I think by donations. http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/2010_Landing_1/en
Yes, they survive by donations and other means of funding. There's an annual public donation round and I'm sure they look for other sources of funding too.
I do not know why they do not use advertising on wikipedia. If they would they could have earned a lot of revenues from that.
Using the information as advertising compromises the objectivity of the content, in the same way that the appearance of religious advertising on Hubpages coincided with a vicious round of bannings of anti-religious posters.
I think the concept of an encyclopaedia means providing people with information in order to educate - profiting off this would jeapordise Wikipedia's principles to a certain degree.
