How to Get Paid to Test Products at Home?

Updated on November 19, 2018
Louidam1 LM profile image

Hey there! I'm Lou Martin from Atlanta, Georgia. I'm a full-time lifestyle blogger at Product Review Mom.

Paid Product Tester at Home

For 9 years, I've been testing and reviewing new products for cash and getting more free merchandise to keep at home. This has been a way to help me make extra money and also learn about the next big thing that companies are about to introduce on the market. I test about 5 or more different full size products a month.

A lot of people don't realize that Big Name Brand Companies are paying people to test their stuff and give their reviews about them so that's why I've created this article.

Product testing is always free to consumers and your information is never sold. It's fun being able to test stuff that are not yet in stores. It's like getting the exclusive first look on up and coming new products!

You can also visit my blog for a list of over 30 companies that provides free paid testing jobs.

I've Helped People All Over The World!

I've been helping people for the past 10 years find legitimate companies that offers free product testing at home. I've also been featured on eBay's blog of a person that find ways to get free products from Top Name Brand Companies and Dr Oz's The Good Life Magazine Feb 2014 issue.

How Does Paid Product Testing Work?

How Can You Earn Money?

Do you ever wonder how companies come up with ideas on items that we use today or improve current products that are in stores?

Companies look for everyday people like yourself to test their stuff and give your reviews about it and they're willing to pay you for your time and opinions.

When you qualify for a product test, the advertiser will send to your home a product of theirs to test for a certain amount of time and write down each day how you like or dislike it and if there is any changes that needs to be made.

Sometimes you may receive a product you've already use in your home, so the company would like for you to stop using it for the time being and use the product test they've sent you in the mail.

Within a couple of weeks, the company will send you an email with a survey questionnaire you have to answer about the product you've tested. The survey can be a bit repetitive but do know your making a difference by voicing your opinions about the product because your letting the advertiser know if you liked their stuff or not and if they needed to make changes or just drop the product idea all together.

Having consumers test their products helps let the advertisers know if the product would sell in stores. If companies just put out a product in stores without getting opinions from consumers can be risky because the product might not sell and the company would've wasted their time and money.

Incentives for the stuff you've tested at home varies. Payments can be about $5-$100 depending on what product you test and how long the product test trial is.

I remember testing a website for HBO in beta format and they paid me $100 for testing their website for about a month. I was able to watch free movies on the internet and on the go free. It was very fun to give my opinions about their new project they were doing and also getting a reward for it!

How Can I Qualify?

Companies are looking for certain types of people to test their products, for example, lets say a company has created a new fruit juice product and wanted to get consumers opinions about; if you do not drink fruit juice you more than likely will not qualify for the product test.

To see if you'll qualify for their product test, the advertising company will first send you a screener to fill out. Once the screener is complete, it'll tell you if you've qualified for the product test or not. If you've qualified, you'll be asked for your name, address, phone number, and email so they'll know where to mail your product test. Remember that advertisers only send product test to real addresses, not P.O. Boxes.

Becoming a Product Tester is a Great Way to Make Extra Money Free at Home

Get Paid For Your Reviews!

I've been a product tester for years and being able to voice my opinions with the products I've tested is very rewarding! Being able to see products I've tested now on stores shelves makes me proud that I've made a difference!

There are so many different products I've tested that I've lost count! LOL! Some products I've tested are shampoos, conditioners, taste testing different kinds of frozen foods, food kits, and granola bars. I also tested lotions, perfumes, paper towels, toilet papers, wipes, diapers, air fresheners, and so much more!!!!

Remember that you'll not make a whole lot of money becoming a Product Tester, but it's a great way to make extra money on the side. So don't quit your day job! LOL!

Join a Paid Medical Trial Study

Another Way to Make Money for Free

Another way to make money for free is to have different products tested on you in a hospital setting. These types of studies can pay you thousands of dollars!

A medical trial studies are done with volunteer patients with certain conditions to find out whether a new drug will be safe, effective, and treat the patients current condition.

Now doing these types of studies is at your own risk and the health care provider will give you a consent form for you to fill out.

Benefits

  • You'll play an active role in health care.
  • You'll gain access to new research treatments before they're available.
  • You'll get expert medical care at leading health care facilities during the trial.
  • You'll be helping others by contributing to medical research.

Risks

There are risks to medical trials.

  • There may be unpleasant, serious or even life-threatening side effects with the experimental treatment.
  • The treatment may not be effective for the participant.
  • The trial may require more of your time and attention, including trips to the study site, more treatments, and hospital stays.

Product Testing is Always Free

Working from home as a product tester is always free! If you run across a company saying you must pay first to test products...DON'T DO IT!!!!!! It's a SCAM!!!!!!

@mars007: Make sure you're filling out any screeners survey panels gives you. Also, companies are always looking for certain demographic. I noticed that women with younger child get more opportunities to test products and make more money completely surveys. I make several hundreds of dollars a year with survey panels but not lately since I haven't been doing them since now I get free products directly from companies to test and review on my blog.

i'm registered with most of these survey companies, but rarely get test opportunities. maybe one once a year w all combined. mostly just do surveys for very little points that takes me over a year to make the $20 needed to cash out or i fill out most of the survey and get told its no longer available and get zero points,

@anonymous: For some reason I haven't gotten any good surveys from them lately. Only do surveys that has points that you can later redeem for money.

Some surveys will lead to testing a product at the end so don't give up! But right now my favorites are MySurvey, Toluna, and Valued Opinions because they seem to always have product test surveys. I'm doing a product test now for Valued Opinions.

      Hi Louidam,

I just signed up to take surveys with SurveySpot. You mentioned receiving products to test from them and cash for testing. So far all I'm doing is filling out surveys for a chance to win $10,000 in a drawing. Is there an opportunity for more than this on Survey Spot that I'm missing?

@mars007: With Survey Panels it all depends on your demographic. I do very well with getting products from different companies and it could be because I'm a woman with children and do all the shopping in my household. Keep trying and don't give up!

I am signed up with the majority of the sites listed but most of them so rarely sent me any product testing offers, just survey links for surveys that take a year to cash out. I think I got a macaroni last year from Toluna and a brush from ACOP a few years ago, and after a few years of sending me nothing BzzAgent invited me to 3 out of 10 product testing campaigns that apply to me.

@anonymous: A lot of people don't know that big companies are looking for people to test their new products. It's fun and also great to be able to keep the products. You should try it out. Thanks for enjoying my lens!
