Management can be defined as business and organizational activities is the act of getting people together to accomplish desired goals and objectives using available resources efficiently and effectively. The management helps people to manage the work and other resources in their day to day activities. So every people not only engineers want management to succeed in their career. So it is more important to develop management skills in their career. In this report mainly concerned about how the management concepts and skills help engineers to succeed in their career.
Leadership is one of the management skill required to develop by an engineer to succeed in his engineering career. When a person recruits as an engineer by a company, he will not in that position forever. In future he will be a manager in that company and he should do the manage ring job in that company. So he should have the leadership quality to handle the job of the manager. As a project manager he has to enroll lot of projects, thus leadership quality is more important.
Communication skills such as writing, listening and speaking are concerned as management skills. Person who is in a management level should have these qualities. So as an engineer, person should improve these communication skills to succeed in their career. Because as an engineer, he should be able to speak clearly to the technical people in the organization. This makes the job work very effective and efficient. People who are effective speakers come across as more comfortable with themselves, more confident, and more attractive to be around.
Being able to speak effectively means they can sell anything products, of course, but also ideas. So engineers with effective speaking ability get more clients to the organization and succeed their engineering career. And the other thing, listening skill is more important to do the job. Engineer should be able to listen well to the higher level management to done work properly. And also he should be able to listen well to the technical people regarding technical stuff.
Another communication skill is a writing skill. In the organization documentary is more important. In the engineering field, all the job work is documented and communication between client and the organization is done through this document. So report writing is more important to an engineer. As a example when an engineer design some technical aspect he should be able to document this design and presented to high level management as well as to the client. Hence writing skill is more important to an engineer to succeed in his career.
Presentation skill is another important skill to develop by the engineer. When an engineer came up with some sort of engineering design, he should be able to present this design to the management as well as to the client. Good presented design is more attractive for the client to get the clear understand about the design. When an engineer present the design to the client, it help to get more information about the design and what the design exactly doing when it is implemented. When Engineer clearly presented, the client can give his ideas and suggestion to improve the design. So good presentation skill is more help to the engineer to come up with a good engineering design or a solution.
In any kind of organization engineers have to work as a team. Hence team work is very essential. Team work is considered as important management skill. Because in an organization, there are 3 levels of management levels. Top level management, middle level management and lower level management. In the top level management, there are chair person, managers and general managers. They should work as a team to get decisions for the organization. By team working they can take good decisions and solution and make the successful organization. Under top level management, engineers are in middle level management. There may be engineering sections and each section should work as a team to get the relevant target. Addition to that, in an engineering organization there may be tasks like analyzing, designing and testing. Each task is assigned to a team. Hence each member of the team should work as a team to achieve the task.
Decision making is another important management skill to an engineer. Decision making is the process of what to do based on the information available. While not being critical can be dangerous, so too can over-analyzing, or waiting for more information before making a decision. Effective decision making is important to get an engineering solution for the analyzing. In an organization engineer or engineering manager is able to get the effective right decision at the right place, the organization or company become success and more profitable. Hence decision making management skill help engineer to succeed in his career.
Good management concepts are also help engineer to succeed in his career. Planning is one of the basic management concepts. Planning requires administration to assess; where the company is presently set, and where it would be in the upcoming. From there an appropriate course of action is determined and implemented to attain the company’s goals and objectives. In planning, management analyzes inside and outside factors that may affect the company and so objectives and goals. Hence as an engineer of a company he should do planning. So improving this planning ability in engineering career, helpful to an engineer to attain the company’s goals and objectives effectively.
Organizing is another good management concept. Management must organize all its resources well before in hand to put into practice the course of action to decide that has been planned in the base function. When an engineer becomes a manager of the company, he has to organize work plan well and put into practice this work. He has to find out the best way to handle the important tasks and expenditure of information within the company. Management determines the division of work according to its need. Although by considering all of these above mentioned tips and concepts you can become a more effective person among your employees and co-workers as an active genuine Engineer.
