Article Marketing - How to Make Money Fast

Updated on July 30, 2012

There's Money In Writing Articles

The Internet has made it possible for many people to make money online and achieve financial freedom so that they can escape the rat race.

There is nothing worse than being in a mundane job you hate, or struggling with the daily commute because you have no other options. The bills are piling up, the mortage or rent is waiting to be paid or maybe you have a family to support, so you have no choice but to stick with the boring day job.

However, the Internet may give you one last chance to escape the monotomy and make some extra money or even enough money so that you can give up the 9 to 5 routine.

But what type of online money making opportunity should you join? Whilst there are a plethora of money making opportunities online, one of the easiest is article writing.

Thanks to the power of the Internet, you can leverage technology to do almost all the work for you. This was impossible to do only ten years ago, but with more and more people embracing the Internet, this is a market that will EXPLODE over the next decade.

The Power of Article Marketing

The power of article marketing is through its means of generating traffic and targeting niche markets. Your articles are going to be highly targeted so it is important that you know your niche market and based on the products or services you offer, you will be able to utilize article directories to reach into your markets and pull out as much free traffic as you can handle.

Target Market: In order to generate traffic you need to evaluate your target audience and find out what they are searching for, what problems they have that need answers, and what solution you can provide to entice them to read your articles in there entirety and go on to visit your website.

The value of your article is in its content, therefore you must ensure that it contains high quality content to be effective, as well as being crafted so that it speaks directly to your target audience.

Keywords: This is where your keyword research comes in. Using the Google Keyword Tool search for keyword phrases that can be used as potential article titles for your niche market, and within the the narrative of your article. Always use one or two keywords in your title, first paragraph and last paragraph of your article. But be wise and utilize the keywords carefully so that the article makes sense. So many times I have seen articles that contain keyword phrases just for the sake of it but are totally unreadable.

Use long tail keywords, which are phrases that contain at least 3 words, rather than broad keywords. ex. 'weight loss after pregnancy' as opposed to 'weight loss' or 'pregnancy'. When people are searching they tend to use more phrases than single words. Further, with single keywords you will find there is more competition, and your article could get lost amongst the thousands of websites.

When looking for keyword phrases look for phrases that have a lot of activity but little competition. Using the example of 'weight loss, you will find that it has a lot of activity but also a lot of competition. But if you delve down further and use the keyword phrase,' weight loss after pregnancy', you will find that it is still a popular phrase but carries a lot less competition.

Example: 'Weightloss' - Monthly Searches = 201,000 - Competition = High

'Weight loss after pregnancy' - Monthly Searches = 18,000 - Competition = Low

The objective is to stay within the popular niche markets because they will be more profitable, but it is for you to research even further and find long tail keyword phrases that are consistently used but have fewer competitors.

The Resource Box: The key factor in article writing and making money is the resource box. This is where you can advertise your product or service. Look at the resource box as a 30 second advert and try and capture the readers attention. Hubpages, unfortunately does not have a resource box, so you will have to refer your readers to your profile where you have advertise your websites.

Depending on what subject your article covers you can subtly refer your readers to your profile by writing a couple of lines at the end of your article. See example below.

Make Money: The process of making money through article marketing is to ensure that your article has a link directly to the webpage that promotes your product or service. eg Resource Box.

As affiliate links are not allowed on Hubpages you will have to rely on the monetizing of your hubpage with Google Adsense, Amazon and Ebay.

Writing articles for the following directories that have resource boxes will help you to make money directly from your affiliate programs or online business.

  • Ezine Articles

  • Squidoo

  • eHow

  • InfoBarrel

  • Suite101

  • Go Articles

Article Directories

I recommend that you offer something to the reader, for example:

A Free Report
A Newsletter subscription
A video guide
A free ebook
A Free Trial
A Free sample

Provided you offer your reader something that is relevant to the subject of your article, you should be able to generate a high converting resource box.

NB: Use an anchor text within your resource box so that it generates backlinks for the keyword phrases that you use rather than just for ranking your domain name.

Example: Write "Click here to download your free article writing report" rather than "visit for your free report"

Article Submission: I recommend submitting to article directories at least twice a week. The objective of writing and submitting to article directories is to draw attention to your article and corresponding website. That's why it is important that you have a good resource box that displays your name and of course your website.

Submitting your articles also helps to build backlinks to your article and website, as well as improve your page ranking.

Article Directories and Article Forums contribute to your article and website getting exposure. This occurs when an ezine owner chooses to publish your article in their ezine. The more ezine owners that generate exposure tto your articles means that you will get more recognition and more Webmasters will link to your RSS feed.

Some Article Directories to submit your articles to:

  2. Hubpages
  3. Squidoo
  4. Suite 101
  6. Info Barrell
  10. Go Articles

Social Networking Sites: Another way to gain exposure for your article and make money is to submit it to the numerous social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitters, Linkedin, Digg and Stumbleupon.

Pingback: Most Article Directories have a pinging facility but sometimes you have to ping your article manually. Through pinging you are informing the search engines that you have written an article or added new content to an exising one, so they can send out their spiders to crawl your article/website. It can also help your website to be indexed faster

So if you are an internet marketer who writes articles and wants to make money from your skill you should ensure that:

  • You research your market

  • You choose relevant keywords

  • You use longtail keywords in the title, summary, first and last paragraphs (Do not use too many keywords in the narrative, as this is seen as spam by the search engines)

  • You write unique articles with quality content

  • You give away some free, e.g. A Free Report

  • You write an attention grabbing resource box that links to your website or affiliate program

  • You create backlinks in your resource box through webpage linking

  • You submit your article to Article Directories and Forums at least twice a week

  • You submit your articles to social networking sites

  • You ping your articles to inform the search engines

Don't worry if you find this a little overwhelming because there are many freelance workers who can write your articles, do SEO, create backlinks and submit your articles to 25+ Article Directories for you.

I use a website called Fiverr to do all the jobs like backlinking and submission. And for just a fiver it works very well to market my articles and give me the exposure I need. In fact through one submission to a social networking site I was offered a job writing reviews. So it does work.
