Scentsy Online Marketing Tips
Tips and tricks to market your Scentsy business online. These tips can be applied to almost any direct selling company. Read on to learn how to harness the powers on the internet and start building your business!
No you do not have to party to join Scentsy!
The question I get asked time and time again about people interested in joining Scentsy is "Can the business be marketed online only?" The answer is YES! You can market your Scentsy business strictly online. In fact many consultants today are only marketing locally and are missing out a huge opportunities online to expand their businesses.
Scentsy is a wickless candle direct sales company that uses parties to gain new customers and consultants. You invite friends and family to your home to have a Scentsy party and introduce them to all the wonderful fragrances and products Scentsy offers. I can tell you one thing, yes parties will get you some instant gratification, but unless you have a huge local social network, your friends and family will not buy enough from you to provide a substantial income. This is why you can, and should, market your Scentsy business online. You can do a combination of local and online marketing or market strictly online. There are many Scentsy consultants who are very successful marketing their businesses 100% online.
Although online marketing can produce great results in any direct selling business, online marketing also takes a great deal of hard work. Success will not happen over-night and you must stay consistent. I have done a ton of research on Internet marketing and through trial and error have found what works best for marketing the Scentsy business online.
Brand Yourself Online
One of the first things you will have to do when you become an Independent Scentsy Consultant is pick a name for your Scentsy business. This is the name that will be associated with the website Scentsy provides you. This is one of the most important decisions you will make in your Scentsy career. A good name is crucial as this is the name you will use to brand yourself all over the WWW. You want to pick a name that is easy to market. It should be short, sweet, and catchy. My brand is Melt My Scent. Everything I do online regarding my Scentsy business I used my brand, Melt My Scent. I wanted Melt Me...it would have been perfect! Someone else already came along and got that one though...smart person!
If you pick a name that is too long or includes words that are difficult to spell then you would have a more difficult time branding yourself online. For example, the name Melt My Wickless Scents Daily is an awful idea for a name. If you picked this name your Scentsy website would be www.meltmywicklessscentsdaily.scentsy .us Who is going to remember all that? I also advise to not put words like wickless and scents together because when they string together in a URL you have three of the same letter (the letter s) back to back.
So please choose your name carefully. You will use this name for everything you do online, including a domain name, business e-mail, Facebook Fan page, blog, Twitter, Squidoo and the list goes on. I highly recommend checking to see if the name you want is available on all of these platforms before setting it up with Scentsy. You can always change your Scentsy name if you need though.
Now it is time to Market your Brand
Once you have picked a name for your brand it is time to get out there and market yourself. Just because Scentsy gives you a website does not mean people will find it and start buying from you, it just doesn't work that way. You have to point people in the right direction.
The first place I started was to get my domain name. I got MeltMyScent.com. The reason to get a domain name is because www.meltmyscent.com is much easier to market that www.meltmyscent.scentsy.us. I use my domain for any online marketing I do. This works well with local marketing also. Don't worry if you do not know how to build a website or if you don't have funds to pay someone to build it for you. With a domain name you can easily have it redirected to your Scentsy site so you do not actually have to build a website. Once you own the domain you can always build a website later if you like.
Once you have your Domain one of the easiest places to start marketing is Facebook. You can create a Facebook fan page for your business and then invite all of your friends and family to like it. You can also join Facebook silent tagging parties to increase your fans and exposure. Be careful not to post too much on your Facebook as people may start to feel spammed and hide all of your posts or unlike you all together. It will do you no good to have a ton of fans if they are not seeing your posts. I try to post once a day or every other day and this has been effective for me.
Another good marketing tool is a blog. You can use your blog to drive traffic to your Scentsy website. Because each consultant has a copycat Scentsy site, they do not usually rank well in search engines. You can however get your blog to rank well, and drive traffic to your website that way. When creating a blog you will want to name it your brand name and provide unique content to help increase you ranking. Search engines do not like copying content so offer unique information and prospective on your products. Do not just copy the Scentsy descriptions of different scents and warmers you are showcasing, give your own descriptions and reasons you love the products. You will also need to update your blog with new content frequently to help with your ranking. Make sure you have fun with it, this will help you to create interesting and unique posts that will drive traffic your way. Don't look up other Scentsy blogs and copy what they are doing, do your own thing, it will pay off in the end.
You can drive more traffic to your blog through a process called backlinking, which is crucial for your SEO (search engine optimization). You want to place links to your blog and Scentsy website on other blogs and websites that get great page ranking. This will help increase your page ranking. It helps even more if the blog or website is related to your subject. I look for blogs related to scents, candles, work at home moms, or general work at home since all of these things relate to Scentsy. Something I recently learned is you can not just post your links on any blog or website with high rankings. Many blogs these days are "nofollow" blogs. If a blog is a "nofollow" blog then placing your links on their comments will do you no good as far as page ranking goes. You need to find blogs that are "dofollow" and post comments on those.
To find "dofollow" blogs Google dofollow blogs and you will find a lot of information on how to find these. Once you start finding blogs you want to backlink on you will need to read a recent post and comment on it. You need to ensure you are not spamming, as the owner of the blog or website will likely delete your comments or not approve them. On most blogs there is a place to leave your name, e-mail, and website. You should have your name be something related to what your website is about. You could use Scented Candles in the name field. Then put your business e-mail in the e-mail field and your blog address or domain address in the website field. Some sites are picky and may not approve your comment if you do not place your actual name in the "name" field. You will have to experiment with different sites and see what they allow. Sometimes you can get away with something like Virginia@Scented Candles in the name field since it has your name as well as a key word. Just be sure to read each post you are commenting on and provide relevant commentary so you will avoid being spammy.
Keep Going...Slow and Steady!
Once you have mastered Facebook and blogging you can branch out further and add a Twitter account to your marketing strategy. Then you can branch out to more online advertising such as what you are reading right now, squidoo! There are plenty of other free sites out there you can advertise your business to as well such as Craigslist, Hoobly, and many more. YouTube is also a great social marketing website. You can upload videos and demonstrations of the Scentsy products. There is so much you can do with internet marketing and it can be overwhelming at first. The key is to take your time and master each platform before you move on to the next. If you try to do it all at once you will likely fail.
