How to Pass the Exam for Legal Nurse Consultant Certification

Updated on January 21, 2012

Preparing for the AALNC Certification Test

The American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants provides certification in this field. All applicants must take an LNCC exam (Legal Nurse Consultant Certified) to become certified for legal nurse consulting.

The most complete way to determine what is on the LNCC certification exam is to access the candidate handbook and find the exam resources. There is a long list of reference books in that handbook that you can purchase and study to get certification as a legal nurse consultant. This could get expensive, though. You may wish to take a course and use one of the test-prep resources detailed below if you are short on funds for buying all of these books on legal nurse consulting.

There are also some free LNCC practice questions and an exam content outline in the handbook. Use these as tools when preparing for the test to assess your level of knowledge and test-taking abilities. Hopefully, you can partner up with someone and bounce ideas off of each other when studying and doing practice questions.

Note: The handbook also contains the application form when you are ready to take the test. The fee is $395 for nonmembers and $325 for AALNC members.

The LNCC Prep Review may be helpful in preparing for the exam, as well. This is a publication of AALNC. It may not be enough, by itself, to get you to pass the legal nurse consultant certification exam. However, it could save you time by directing your studies of the aforementioned exam references. As of August 2011, the fee is $100 for both members and nonmembers of the American Association of Legal Nurse Consultants.

AALNC also provides an LNCC practice test. It contains 100 questions with all the correct answers. As of August 2011, you may purchase this practice exam for $100 as an AALNC member and $125 as a nonmember.

AALNC has a number of other resources for beginning to intermediate and advanced students of legal nurse consulting. You could take an entire online course in LNC for around $1900 or individual modules if you do not need the entire course. For beginners who would like to get started in legal nurse consulting and work toward certification, there is an introductory guide for about $100.

The other major product is Legal Nurse Consulting: Principles and Practice. Both volumes are available for about $150 as a set. Check out AALNC's online bookstore for more educational and certification test-prep products for legal nurse consulting.
