Making Money from Home with Affiliate Marketing

Updated on April 16, 2012

What is Affiliate Marketing?

Are you looking for an affordable way to start making money from home? Affiliate marketing is fast becoming one of the best ways to make money online today. This article shares the basics of what affiliate marketing is, and how you can make money with it.

For those of you who are new to the term affiliate marketing, I will try to give you a brief outline of the concept and process. Many of you may be familiar with companies such as Avon, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Regal, or any of the other direct marketing companies you may have in your country or city. For years, these companies have been allowing others to create a business around selling their products. They provide the inventory, the order forms and do the shipping. It is the new business owners job to then go around and gather up as many orders as she/he can. Once that is submitted, a commission is then awarded to the salesperson. These sales people are known as Associates.

In the online world, Associates are known as Affiliates. The same principals still apply. You find a company who's products you would like to promote, and then you sign up, get all of your sales tools(affiliate tools), and set about making yourself a business.

Affiliate Marketing Strategies

In the beginning, affiliate marketers were just sending interested people to the sales page for the product. But over time, it has become known that an average person needs to be subjected to an idea or product 5-7 times before they will decide to buy. So, with this in mind, affiliate marketers started to set up an autoresponder list and get those interested people signing up with them to keep in touch. By offering a free sample, or helpful information to those who are interested in the niche/field that they are in, visitors will agree to sign up to an affiliates list and receive emails from them. An affiliate then emails them once or twice a week offering them more tips and advice, sharing some products that have helped them, and then work in ways where they can offer their subscribers products where commissions can be made.

This strategy may take longer to make money than the direct way, but it has been known to be able to make more money the larger your list grows. By mixing a combination of both marketing methods together, you should be able to come up with a way to earn steady income on a regular basis. There are many things to test and track when marketing affiliate products, but those that stick with it and learn everything they can, go on to make a really good living online.

Make As Much Money As You Want

One of the best things about making money with affiliate marketing is that there is no limit to the amount of money that can be made. With an everyday job, you usually have a wage. With affiliate marketing, if you manage to come up with a working strategy, you could make six figures in just a few years and build on that for every year after.

Affiliate marketing is something that can be picked up and learned little by little at night after work when they kids are in bed, or on the weekends. You can learn something new, apply it that night and move on in a few weeks if you find through your testing that it is not working. Once you know what works, stick with it. Some people swear by article marketing, other people love PPC, whatever you find works, will be what is right for you.
