Plus Size Swimsuit and Lingerie Modelling Requirements
Today, the plus size modelling industry is expanding rapidly, and if you are curvy and aspire to become a model, one of the best modelling niches to consider is in the swimsuit and lingerie industry. It has fast become one of the most lucrative branches to pursue in the plus size fashion industry.
Let’s say you've always aspired to be a model but then you've grown a bit fat, don't worry too much about it because there are a good number of agencies searching for curvaceous women to showcase plus size swimsuits and under-clothing.
But before we go into all the details, it is important that you have a passion for modelling and if you are full-bodied, you must have the right attitude, which means you mustn't have any hang-ups about your shape and size, and you mustn't be self-conscious either.
You must not only be proud of your size, but you must also possess a high self-esteem and be confident and bold enough to appreciate your curvy silhouette.
5 Things Required of Plussize Lingerie and Swimwear Models
Being plus size is not enough to get you into this arm of the fashion industry as there are certain requirements that must be met to become successful in this niche. For starters, it is good to know that job opportunities are quite vast for full-bodied swimsuit and lingerie models but before you can think of specialising in this modelling niche, you will need to know some of the important things that are expected of you in the industry.
1. Your body must be well-toned
Many large sized women, contrary to popular belief, are fit and well-toned even though many people find it hard to equate being curvy with firm and toned bodies. But if this is your area of interest or maybe you've never given it a thought, you will have to expose a large portion of your body (swimwear and lingerie are quite revealing), so, having a well-toned body is essential.
You must also be well rounded, curvaceous and firm, and most importantly you must look hale and hearty, and not just fat.
2. You must have smooth and clear skin
As a plus-size model, asides lingerie and swimwear, you may have to model intimate apparel like sheer baby dolls, revealing nightwear and other intimates like pyjamas, garters, and the like. Because of this, you must ensure that your body is free of unwanted/unruly hair growth, unsightly bumps, rashes and dark unsightly patches around the arms, elbows, knees, thighs and bottom.
Your skin must be flawless, it must glow, and must show evidence of being well moisturized. Additionally, your hair and nails (yes! nails) must look well maintained, well-manicured, and healthy.
3. Being tall is a good advantage
There is certainly a minimum height you should be. The taller an aspiring plus size model is, the better the chances of her cinching great plus-size modelling jobs.
And if you are statuesque, there is a likelihood of you being more successful than those of average height.
Take note that the minimum height required for a plus size model is 5’9", so if you fit within this requirement, you are 'good to go'.
4. You must not be less than a size 14
Being nothing less than sizes 14 to 16 gives swimsuit and lingerie models a better advantage, but being large isn’t enough. Being curvy must be a prerequisite which means your curves must be clearly evident and must be in the right parts of your body.
This is because many are plump, fat even, but don't have obvious curves. So, if you are full-bodied and aspire to become a swimwear model (for instance) but don’t have evident curves, you must work on your figure; not necessarily to lose weight, but to lose unsightly fatty lumps.
However, it is certain that the passion you have for becoming a model will give you enough drive to lose excess fat around the important areas. This can be achieved with exercise.
5. You must have a great attitude
Finally, having the right attitude is very important for any woman aspiring to model plus-size apparel. A positive outlook coupled with assertiveness will go a long way to having continued success in this niche of plus size modelling.
