Forbes released their list of the "Richest People in the World" on Wednesday 9th March 2011. This lens will introduce you to the top 10 richest people in the world, and in all honesty there are no real surprises.
Bill Gates has more or less owned the top spot for much of the last 17 years, but there has been "a changing of the guard" over the past few years. 2011 is still a great year, so far, for Gate's, but once again he is NOT the richest person in the world.
The Richest Woman In The World - 10. Christy Walton & Family - $26.5billion
Christy Walton is the widow of John T. Walton, who just happened to be the son of the founder of Walmart, Sam Walton. Christy is the only woman in the top 10 list of the richest people in the world 2011, and the vast majority of her personal fortune comes from her shares in Walmart.
In addition to this her late husband invested in First Solar and the proceeds of these shares have help Christy Walton to become the richest woman in the world.
9. Mukesh Ambani - $27billion
Mukesh Ambani is the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries. His company is the largest private sector enterprise in India, and is even a Fortune 500 company. Ambani can actually boast that he was the world's richest man for an extremely short period of time when the Indian Rupee was boosted by the Indian Stock Market during 2007.
Forbes magazine have also forecast that Ambani is expected to regain his title as the world's richest man by 2014.

Often referred to as simply "Eike", he is a Brazilian born business baron. Eike is probably best known for his mining companies, and the fact that his father was the head of mining company, Vale.
Eike actually made much of his fortune from OGX. This is an oil and gas exploration company that was founded in 2007. Not only is Eike now the 8th richest person in the world, he also happens to be the 4th richest person living in the Americas.

He was born to his 19-year old mother, Florence Spellman, who didn't actually realize she was pregnant until Larry's biological father, a US Air Force pilot, was stationed abroad.
Larry then contracted pneumonia at the age of nine months, and it was at this time that his mother decided she could no longer adequately care for him. He was adopted by his Aunt and Uncle, Lillian Spellman Ellison and Louis Ellison at the age of nine months in Chicago...and the rest, as they say, is history!

Slim is the CEO and chairman of telecommunications companies Telmex and American Movil. He also has numerous holdings in Mexican companies via his conglomerate, Group Carso SAB. Both his parents are of Lebanese descent, and they created considerable wealth through a dry goods store and purchasing real estate well before Carlos was even born.
Slim has consistently been one of three richest men in the world (the others being Bill Gates and Warren Buffet) since 2007. Slim also has the accolades of being the first Mexican to top the rich list, the first time that the person topping the rich list was from an "emerging economy", and in 2010 he became the first person in 16 years to top the rich list that was not from the United States.
