Best Selling eBay Items In Pictures

How To Sell On eBay - Books From Amazon

Best Things To Sell On eBay

My recent efforts at "Spring Cleaning" turned, instead, into an idea for a Hub page. Some of the best things I've sold on eBay. One thing you'll find about many people who like to write, we tend to be informational pack rats, and that includes pictures.

So, I was going though some of the folders on my PC thinking that maybe it's time to clean up a bit of the mess and throw out some of the thousands of digital photographs I had collected while going through my eBay selling phase. After all when am I ever going to need a picture of a picture of cuff links, a miniature deck of playing cards or a worn out and rusty old Rocket Racer? Amazingly, the answer is' today.

Until now I've had no reason to believe that these folders of mine filled with old eBay pictures were of any use, to me or anyone else, and I was probably correct in that assumption until it dawned on me that they can be used to illustrate an article about the types of things that still sell on eBay.

Most of the items you see here will have come from either garage sales, resale shops, Goodwill, The Salvation Army or various auctions I've attended, but the most common thread will be that I got them for cheap and listed them for sale at eBay for at least a small profit.

Disclosure: It's been a couple of years since I've sold these items so exact numbers evade me. where I can I'll include what I believe to have been my buying and selling prices... I'm sure it's a little more informative (and fun) to look at the pics and read the chatter when the buy sell prices are included.

There is no guarantee you'll be able to find the deals that I did and make money like I did. Before you buy anything with the intent of reselling on eBay do your research, including making sure you items are allowed on eBay.

Why I Chose These Items To Sell On eBay

I know these items may seem a little unusual to some and others are probably wondering why I would choose these items for resale. The reasons these particular items were chosen to highlight in this article are fairly straight forward:

  1. These items will generally sell well on eBay. There is an eager market waiting to purchase them from you.
  2. These items are in their own obscure little niches, so not everyone is trying to buy them up at auctions and resale shops. You may still have a chance to find them at reasonable prices.
  3. They're small so they don't take up much space. If you are going to be selling from your kitchen table this is more important than you might realize.
  4. Did I mention that they are small? Small items are easier to package and ship. Especially items that can be mailed in envelopes versus boxes. If you are doing this part time it will save you many hours as opposed to boxing and shipping larger items.
  5. There's still money to be made on these items. As long as you are careful to not pay too much for the items you want to resell, there are usually still good returns on these items.

Vintage Cuff Links And Tie Clips Sell Well On eBay

Vintage Tie Clasps and Cuff Links

Then there was the time I came across a lot box of vintage and antique cuff links and tie clips. The lot included several hundred pieces, including dozens of sets of fancy cuff links that I sold on eBay for a very nice return.

The box of men's jewelry was purchased for $75.00. and I decided to piece them out rather than selling in bulk. For me it was an ideal purchase in many ways. I started the auctions at $9.99 and some sets sold for $35.00, with most of them going for $12.00-$15.00. By time I was done selling them I was able to get around a $600.00 return in total, and I still have about a hundred pieces sitting tucked away in a box in my basement just in case I get the bug for selling on eBay again.

One of the best things for me was the size of the items. Jewelry is easy to manage and doesn't take up a lot of room like some of the larger items I used to sell. You can ship most tie tack and cuff link sets in small envelopes with minimal postage. This allows you to offer free shipping. which really helps you make the sale on eBay.

Vintage Rummy Game Boards Sell Well On ebay

Vintage Rummy Games sell fast on eBay. I've sold quite a few of these vintage Rummy game boards on eBay. You should get $10.00 -$20.00 for them and for the really old ones quite a bit more.

For those of you who don't remember the days when the family sat around the kitchen table for Saturday game night like I do. The Rummy games were always a lot of fun then and apparently they are making a comeback now.

So whether you come across a Tripoley, Michigan Rummy or Rummy Royal Game board, if you can get it for a couple of bucks or less it should be a profit maker for you.

Miniature Playing Cards

Miniature Playing Cards - are an easy collectible to work with and they sell fairly well on eBay. Shown in the photo are a group of miniature cards that were found in a box of miscellaneous goodies that I got at an auction. I'm sure I didn't pay more than $5.00 dollars for the entire box and this little collection of cards sold for around $15.00. That's a $10.00 profit, plus whatever I got for the rest of the items.

Back in the 1960's and 1970's these cards were a commonly sold item at rest stop gift shops and airports. Tourist and travelers would buy them as small gifts for those that couldn't make the trips and as mementos to commemorate the trip. You'll find many of with pictures exotic destinations such as Hawaii, Paris, Rome, even with the logos of the hotels that were visited and airlines that were flown are commonly found on the cards and card boxes.

Not to be forgotten Las Vegas was, during those years, also considered an exotic destination and being that it was a gaming town many of these miniature playing card deck were marketed to the tourists. I think if I were collecting these miniatures I'd probably go with the vintage Vegas cards.

Oh yes and then there were a plethora of companies produced the cards with nudie photos. Tame; by today's standards, but risky enough to encourage a guffaw back in the day. Well enough said as you can see there are plenty of opportunities to market all types of miniature cards on eBay.

Cribbage Boards

Cribbage Boards sell really well on eBay and although most of them sell for between $15.00 and $50.00 dollars some can get into the hundreds of dollars. The truth is I haven't sold any cribbage boards, yet, only because I collect them and don't want to let any of them go.

So even though my experience with cribbage boards comes from the buying side and not the selling side, my passion for collecting these and the knowledge that I've been in a couple of bidding wars is an indicator of how well cribbage boards sell in the collectibles area on eBay.

Vintage Clocks and Pocket Watches - Shown Is An Antique Waltham Car Clock That I Sold For About A Hundred Dollars On eBay Circa "1910"

I didn't know that this was a car clock until I did my pre-sale research. Before I got the lowdown on this Antique Waltham clock I just thought it was an over sized pocket watch. Finding out the history on these items is almost as much fun as selling them.

Vintage And Antique Fountain Pens Sell On eBay

Vintage Fountain pen Lots Can Sell For Good Money On eBay

Vintage and Antique Fountain Pens are great items for selling on eBay. Many of the pens that sold in the 1940's, 50's, and 60's boasted exquisite patterns and were made of bakelite and early formulations of modern plastics.

I have no recollection of what my buy or sell prices were on these fountain pens, but once again they were a real cool find. This time I did save one for myself, and when I get round to it I'm sending it out for reconditioning..." If I can remember where I put it, that is".

If you frequent antique auctions and estate sales, you can still come across fountain pens, sometimes individually and sometimes in miscellaneous box lots. Although fountain pens sell well on eBay, there are a lot of them being sold which means you may not get top dollar unless you have a specific brand fountain pen that collectors are searching for, or yours has been reconditioned.

Now and again, you can also find sets or lot box auctions of fountain pens on eBay. You might be able to capitalize by buying one of these box lots and then reselling them back on eBay one pen at a time. The secret here, is of course, research, research, research.

One other method of making money selling vintage and antique fountain pens on eBay is to purchase pens on eBay that need repair at deep discounts, then investing the time in refurbishing them for resale. A gunked up pen with a damaged bladder may only be worth a dollar or two, but a nice vintage fountain pen of moderate quality that has been reconditioned should bring $15.00-$25.00 each.

The only things I've ever sold on eBay were some old clay pipes and carved African animal figures. I didn't feel the effort was worthwhile, but maybe now I should take a renewed look.

I've never bought or sold on ebay, but there have been times I wished I knew more about it. Lots of super info. The car watch is pretty cool find. At first I thought it was a huge pocket watch too :)

Oh I also did keep most pictures from all the stuff I sold on ebay since 1998. As a buyer I buy stamps and collectibles for my collections mostly. as a seller wow i sell lots of different things: stamps and collectibles, vintage photos and French magazines mainly. Over the years I sold quite a few (and some unexpected) expensive items found in garage sales. I have to say I love ebay :)

I loved seeing another ebay seller's comments, pictures, and thoughts regarding the stuff he sells. I had a cool pocket watch from the 6th Grand Prix in France...loved that watch.

I think I would find it difficult to let go of such treasures, to sell them on eBay, once I started collecting them - the car clock, for example. How cool is that?
