Special Niche, Unique Skills

Interest and Passion Sells the Product Not the NIche

You cannot sell your product until you find your niche.

Motivation, Desire and Determination

Which way do I go? What do I want to do in my life? What interests me? What are my passions? What job interests me so much I am willing to follow my career dreams? How do I enjoy spending my free time?

This niche is not what we mean. This niche offers no set goals or happiness in life and does not pay a cent.

New Skills Take Interest, Motivation, and Determination

When a person is searching for a new skill, no matter what field of endeavor, the person needs to have an interest and be willing to research, read, and learn about the new skill. There may be classes available for specific skill changes, on college sites, in a classroom setting or online in order to achieve the highest level of success in the new skill.

The word niche has a few varying degrees of definition, however a niche in the business world is a specific place or position that one must search for and find in order to be happy where they are planted within the work force.

For example, while I was a senior in high school my class had to find and consider a career that we could study and work towards when we chose a college to attend. Our class had a list of companies that took the students and allowed the student to shadow an employee. This gave the student a good idea if the career choice triggered an interest with them enough to make it a lifetime career choice.

I chose the hospital in our city. Nursing interested me enough that I wanted to shadow someone at the hospital. Later that summer I worked as a volunteer at the hospital. This worked for me because I took nursing in college and worked as a nurse for over 40-years. This career in other words, became my niche in life, in addition to helping to support my family.

People can have hobby niches such as bowling, vehicle repair, needlework, cooking, home improvement and so much more.

New Skills, After Retirement

After 43 years of nursing, I retired. I found it difficult to sit still. I decided that I wanted to write a biography of my dad, then 81 years of age. Since his memory was starting to falter, my dad and his next younger brother, Herman, and I compiled a 300-page book about my dad's life in Michigan with his parents and brothers. Herman was a storyteller by heart (Herman's niche), and we totally enjoyed working together on this project. Herman's niche in addition to being a storyteller was to cain antique chairs. My niche was writing stories, cross-stitch, bowling and travel.

My uncle taped my questions, and I typed the information into the computer. This project kept me busy for over one year. After my book was completed, I wanted to write a cookbook that included a small biography on the women in my family, followed by their favorite recipes. I completed this project in about six months.

Find Your Niche

It was difficult finding my niche when I did not know what a niche really meant. I found that a niche is an enjoyable pass time, an interesting job, or hobby. I certainly enjoyed writing and I liked doing research. It did not take long to discover a number of freelance writing sites on the internet; I just had to find the right freelance writing sites. I love to write on most any topic, especially health and fitness topics. It did not take me long to find my niche in the freelance writing world.

I started freelance writing for pay. My experience was a roller coaster ride, and a learning process. After three years, I am still learning. Anyone at any stage or age in life can learn a new skill. Learning a new skill takes motivation and desire. One just has to enjoy what they are doing by finding their special niche and then learn all they can about their new skill. If a person has a job, they hate to go to every day or a hobby has become burdensome, this is not a niche it becomes a hateful chore.

Learning Freelance Writing Never Ends

I worked solo for one year and then my husband opened a freelance account with my company and began to write. However, my husband found that he disliked writing and it became a burden to continue so he quit. This was not a niche for my husband.

No one will do a good job when he or she is doing something he or she dislikes doing, no matter if the thing is a wage-earning job or a hobby. When a niche is a chore and one finds no enjoyment in the niche it is not really a niche.

Soon after starting my new skill, I found a writing site and wrote 52 health and fitness articles, linking the articles to our new health and fitness website. My husband sat up a fitness store on our website and thid fitness store is a slight niche for him, if there is such a thing. This store triggers some interest; however, it is not something that he loves to do every day.

Fitness, weight lifting and supplements, trigger my husband's interest. He enjoys giving me insight into some of my weight lifting articles. After 40 years of weightlifting, one might say this is my husband's passion or niche.

I researched freelance writing sites and found three that pays me for articles I write, and topics that interest me. I have learned quite a bit about plumbing, law, automobiles, health, fitness children, and so much more.

Each writing site have levels of writing expertise generally from a level two, beginner, to a level five, professional. This is always a goal for all freelancers to improve their writing ability and expertise.

I developed a writing business and filed a DBA or "Doing Business As", put a business name to the DBA and started to write. I am writing solo, but sometimes different members of my family will contribute articles of expertise. My husband will give me insight and information in regards to weight lifting, but will not write down the information. I have to put this information to work in an article.

Interests and Hobbies Equal a Niche

Some people do not develop a business using their special niche. They may find something they enjoy doing and use their niche as a hobby to pass the time and are not interested in earning money or making a business out of their niche and this is perfectly all right. Sometimes using a niche to make money takes the enjoyment

Some people have a difficult time finding their position in the business world. Trying to find exactly what career move a person fits into is a challenging thing for many people. To find one's place in the world comes easy for some and is more difficult for others. There is nothing worse then working for a lifetime at a job that is hated.

The thing to remember is that a particular niche is going to be what triggers a person's interest or passion in a career choice or hobby.

      Hello DreamerMeg

Thank you for the comment. I think most people have special niches, but do not know it because they do not know what a niche is, just like me once upon a time.

      Have a wonderful day.

I love this hub. You have found several niches you love apparently by luck but really by being interested and finding out about things instead of waiting for luck to come along, which it seldom does, because as someone said, it waits at the junction between hard workand willingness to see opportunity.
