States that don't require you to have a Plumbing License to Practice Plumbing

Updated on April 27, 2012

Several States in the US Hand the Responsibility of Licensing Plumbers to the Towns and Cities.

It really doesn't make sense to me why these States don't require. People to get a Plumbing License to Practice Plumbing. A Hairdresser has to get a License to cut hair and bad hair cuts only last for 2 weeks. A Plumbing Project that fails could cost you thousands of dollars in repair damages. It could even cause people to be hospitalized if dangerous chemicals get in the drinking water. Some of the States leave it up to the towns and cities in the state to decide weather you need a license to work in their town or not. In a lot of cases the town says well the state does not require plumbers to have a license at the state level so why should we??? Stupid question I know... But its true. I don't think the state should leave it up to the towns to decide weather or not they require a license or not. That means that each town gets to do a Plumbing Licensing Program and Exam to License Plumbers. I bet they make up a lot of their own rules too. I honestly don't think that these smaller towns should have the power to License a contractor. I'm Pretty sure that contractors that don't have the experience that they need to be a Journey man are already getting their Journey Man License. When the State Leaves it up to the Town there is too much room for corruption. Later on down the line it ends up causing society a lot problems that could have easily been prevented. I think that it should be a Law for every State to have to License Plumbers at the State Level. I think that when the State says well we just won't deal with it... "we are gonna leave it up to the towns and give them the power to license these people", is totally irresponsible and lazy. Every State in the U.S. requires a Barber to have a License to cut hair! We have Plumbers that are Practicing without a License in Many States. Some of the states are Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kansas, Missouri, and a Few other States. I think that in the future this is gonna be causing some major problems and there are gonna be some really nasty court cases before any changes get made. By then they will realize what kind of damages they could have prevented if they would have just made plumbers get licensed through the state.

I Advertise for a Plumbing Company out of Illinois and I thought this would be a good topic to write a blog about. There are thousands of people who realize the importance of Licensing Plumbers through the State. This is gonna be a really big issue in the future when the damage is already done.

Every county in every state should require a journeyman license to perform any type of plumbing even working for a plumbing contractor. Bubonic Plague anyone?
