How to Set up a Professional Tarot Reading Business

Updated on October 9, 2013

Are You Prepared?

You have been doing readings for all of your friends and family. You have a collection of tarot decks, books, and study materials. You have put in the time to become a skilled reader. Now what?

Start your own tarot reading business, that's what. I have highlighted all of the options that I am familiar with. Feel free to comment with your ideas and experiences.

Options

A tarot business can be an offline or online business. There are many options tor starting an online business. These options include starting your own website, setting up an account with an existing website or join a psychic network. The offline options include opening your own shop, providing in home readings, fairs, festivals, metaphysical shops, and parties. You can combine any or all of the options above to optimize your exposure and income potential.

Online Business

One of the options for starting an online business is starting your own website. There are many companies out there that offer free websites. A free website is a good place to start. I purchased a domain name and created some free websites through Yola. The websites are easy to create and look professional. A free website provides you with a valuable asset to promote your business online. This saves you money for advertising and other expenses.

You can join an existing website. You set up your own profile and promote yourself. A percentage of what you charge goes to the company that owns the website. Joining these kind of companies allow you to set your own rates and get started for free. I can not tell you which websites are the best for you but I can tell you about the websites that I have tried out.

Keen is a good website to join. They also allow you to have a free blog on the website. You can have your earnings direct deposited or mailed to you once a month. They provide links that you can place on websites and blogs to draw business. You have the option to become a featured advisor on the website.

The Bitwine Psychic Community is another option. The best part of this website is that you can have your earnings deposited directly into your paypal account. you just pay Bitwine a percentage of what you earn. The set up is little more complicated than keen. You have to integrate your paypal account and choose you service delivery options (phone, webcam, chat). They also provide links that you can place on your blogs or websites. Your account can be linked to your twitter account and you can have your online status posted directly to twitter when you are available. You can also have your twitter posts show up on your profile.

Another option is to join a psychic network. You are considered an independent contractor. You do not have as much freedom with this option but it is also free to join. There is a set price that the network charges and set amount that you are paid per minute. There may be requirements for average talk time and overall minutes.

With so many options out there you should be able to find one or more that appeal to you. Try all of the free options that you find interesting. What do you have to lose?

Offline Business

A tarot reading business offline does not need to be complicated either. Look out for local festivals or fairs where you can rent a space to provide readings and promote yourself. Advertise for one on one readings over the phone or in person. You can also advertise to do readings at parties or special events. There are metaphysical book stores or coffee shops that you can contact about offering your services. There are may options.

if you are doing business under another name, you need to check with the county clerk in your area. You may be required to get a business license or assumed name certificate. I purchased an assumed name certificate for ten dollars. I was then required to post it in the legal section of the paper for an additional thirty dollars.

You can always check with an attorney if you have any legal questions about starting your own business. If you are going to offer products for sale, you will also need a sales tax id number. You can request this from IRS.

Advertising can be done on the internet, local papers, fliers, and business cards. You can purchase software for your computer so that you can print your own business cards. Business cards can also be ordered online. I have used Vistaprint and have been very satisfied with price, quality, and delivery time.

@sthrlnd: I think handing cards out for Halloween and starting with donations is a good idea. Starting with donations helps build trust. When you decide to go online, I recommend Keen to start out. Only people new to Keen get three free minutes and after that everyone has to pay.

I actually started an online metaphysical supply store with a great deal of products and services on wix.com. It was free to build, host and cheap to run Ecommerce. I love it! www.gypsiescauldron.com
