The ShipIt Workbook

Updated on February 11, 2012

A write-in-it, get-it-done, banish-fear workbook

OUT OF PRINT!

In Linchpin, I write about the lizard brain and the way we often sabotage projects.

In the 32 page shipit workbook, we nail the lizard to the wall, identify it, defeat it and make something happen.

If you push yourself and your team to get through the workbook, I promise your product will ship (or you'll know why).

I've tested this on the road trip, taking thousands of people through it, and it's working. I hope you'll discover the same impact. Five copies cost $16 (about $3.20 each) but the price will probably rise after this printing is sold.

Here's what I know

Projects don't fail because we don't care, and they don't fail because we don't know enough and they don't fail because we're not working hard.

Projects fail because when we work in teams, we seek deniability. We want instructions, not insight. We want someone else to be happy with our work and someone else to take the blame when things don't work out.

It might make you uncomfortable (actually, it will make you uncomfortable) but this workbook makes it really clear what is at stake and what to do about it.

The workbook and the original

Now out of print, sorry.

@wcs0437: Go to Seth's Typepad page and go to his "freeprize" subpage.

It's under a post in there

Is The Shipit Journal still applicable if you're working solo, not as part of a team? Is there any way to buy a single?

Thanks, Seth. I love your work!

Hi Seth. I was at the Harris Theatre in Chicago this morning and appreciated your mention of the shipit booklet. I added it to my Amazon Wish list so hopefully when it is back it stock I can get a few packs. While I am waiting I will ship an article I have been afraid to send out for fear it wasn't perfect. It might just be good enough. Thanks for the nudge in that direction.

@tim3001: Hi Tim. As it says on the original blog post and above, you get five copies of the same little workbook. And no, it's not digital, because then it wouldn't work...

Seth, I wanted to order from Amazon but the only international shipping option seems to be "Standard", requiring the books up to 1 1/2 months to make it to The Netherlands!

Is this a clever way to discourage impulse buying or an ommission on the dashboard somewhere?

Hi, I'm not sure I understand the 5 pack concept, does this actually comes in 5 times the same booklet? Sorry about the dumb question...

Also, is it available as a digital book somewhere (pdf or kindle)?

wow, what a great idea and kudos for the manual on the manual. One question, I work solo these days, so is it for me as well? I could use help shipping, no doubt about that:)

@kgorsky: this is a mess, guys.

I'm really sorry, but now Amazon is claiming that the Heritage Act and Canadian law (!) forbids them from shipping my workbook to Canada.

      This is nuts.

I'm truly sorry. I'm working on a workaround. Thanks for your patience.

Love the "hoppa" picture below! It must be taken in my hometown Gothenburg (Sweden) where all the natives have a highly developed sense of humour!

@themikevardy: If Amazon ships there, off it goes. (I think North Korea might be a problem).
