Updated on November 13, 2014

Getting Started

Finding what is right for you based on interest, ability and the given market is what's important. Beyond that there are a few more things to think about when venturing off on your own financially to be successfully.

WHEN: Having the right timing can make or break a start up. If starting slow while having another stream of income, when you start may not be such a big idea. But quitting a job to start a business in a time when there is little market for the product or service, can be a major mistake.

TIME: Some forms of self employment can be set up within a couple hours and some take time with lots of planning. How much time needed to start an income stream is a huge factor, and should not be taken lightly.

MONEY: Financial status is also a huge factor, ideally if already having financial issues starting with a no cost or low cost way of self employment is best. Many starting businesses start with what they have then build on as the cash flow increases.

Types Of Self Employment

There is more then a few types of self employment. But don't worry what is chosen now is not set in stone. For example, a graphic artist may start out as a freelancer but then could grow into either a local small firm or start a online business with their talent.

Good lens. I started as a self-employed Ebay trader a few months ago - I'm not making much money yet, but I'd rather be working for myself than someone else (and I've had literally dozens of jos in the past). Ebay trading's probably one of the easiest businesses to get into for most people - as long as you've got an internet connection and something to sell, you're basically all set. I started by selling old magazines that were cluttering up my house, now I buy and sell. One thing, I wouldn't recommend drop-shipping. It sounds good, but you have absolutely no control of the goods you're selling, but you'll get the blame if they're defective or don't arrive.
