Why Use Pinterest

Updated on March 8, 2014

What Is Pinterest?

Pinterest is a new website that acts like half social media half magazine. You can pin your favorite websites onto a board, and with enough pins, your board could look like an online magazine with headlines all over the place. Pinterest is the new Facebook, but the only difference is that Pinterest just began. You can take a huge advantage and become a part of Pinterest today like me. I want to tell everyone why I go on Pinterest and why you should too. Pinterest is not like Twitter and Facebook yet, but Pinterest had 3.3 million unique visitors on October, and that is a good start. Pinterest is going to reach high demand and become as popular as Twitter and Facebook, but time is running out to join before thousands of other people do as well.

Looking For Traffic?

Well, with Pinterest, traffic is common. Pinterest drove in more traffi than Google+, YouTube, Reddit, and Linkedin. If you combine all four of those websites' traffic together, Pinterest still wins. This occurred in January 2012, and with more people finding Pinterest, that's just how much better Pinterest will do.

You see that picture? That's how crowded your websites and lenses could be if you use Pinterest.

Pinterest Offers Goodies

Pinterest gives you some goodies along the way that can make your Pinterest experience even more fun. These goodies aren't like merchandise, but you do get a lot of cool features that they call goodies. One of the goodies is a follow me on pinterest button that works really well. In fact, you can see one of them below.

Once you click on the button, you will be immediately brought to my Pinterest account. When you access your goodies, you will be able to create a button like the one above that leads to your account.

Focus on the Different Sources Pointing Fingers At Each Other

Well, what does that mean? I am going to tell you. If you have a Squidoo lens, you are most likely going to have a related lens page as well as a module based on your other lenses. An About Me Module wouldn't hurt either, but what do they do? They point back to your blueprints, all of the lenses that you have made. Pinterest ranks incredibly well with Google, and you can use it to point back to some of your lenses, or better yet, your lensmaster page with all of your lenses. Pinterest can be a great tool to drive in a lot of traffic.

Pinterest Will Soon Make Money

Pinterest, the virtual pinboard will soon be able to make money. Pinterest gives us the ability to put up pins pointing back to our sites, but Pinterest states that its longterm goal is to be able to make money for its loyal users. Pinterest could try Adsense, and there are over 1 million people using Pinterest, so there is money to be earned on Pinterest once they come up with those methods.

Extra, Extra, Read All About It!

Pinterest is probably one of the best ways to get an online newspaper or magazine about your interests. Promote products, talk about social media, or even promote your Squidoo lenses. On Pinterest, you can be getting a lot of extra traffic to your Squidoo lenses.

Pinterest VS Twitter

What's The Difference

Twitter is a place where you can talk with followers and talk about links, but Pinterest offers a completely different view of sharing links. First of all, you get a picture to show your visitors what the link is about. Pictures are more convincing that text and links. Twitter does not offer pictures for your URLs unless you promote an Amazon product. Even with Amazon Products, you cannot see the product until someone clicks the link or "view media." I have heard in the past that Pinterest replaces your Amazon ID with theirs which could be a problem for affiliates. I use both Pinterest and Twitter, and it's going to stay that way.

Easy To Pin

On Pinterest, it is not hard to pin something. All you need to do is put in the URL, get the perfect image, and write a 500 character description about what you are promoting. You can pin in the car, on the road, or anywhere you go. Pinterest is easy and fun to use, and I have over 20 pins per day (I hope to have over 100 pins per day soon).

There Is Hope For Amazon Associates

In fact, there is a lot of hope for Amazon Associates who want to make money on Pinterest. There is an easy way to get Amazon affiliate links on your Pinterest boards. There are many blog services that allow you to write your own blogs such as WordPress and Blogger. Each post has a link that sends the visitor to the exact post instead of your blog's homepage. If you want to sell a product, you can create a blog post for that product. Then you can put a picture of the product on Pinterest with a price. Eventually, people will see your pin and want to learn more about the product. When your visitors click on the pin's link, they will be redirected to your blog post which reviews the product. When someone clicks the "Buy Amazon" Button or the affiliate link you have in the middle of the post, they will be sent to Amazon, and when someone buys a product, you get a commission.

I love Pinterest. I find it extremely easy to use, and I have to stop myself from using it exclusively. I pinned this lens to my board "just for internet marketers and Squids."
