What Is Zazzle?
Zazzle is a website where members can create items. These items can be sold in one of two ways, privately or publicly. If you are responsible for a family reunion, and are designing a shirt for the occasion, you might opt to have your product private. If you are designing for profit, and most items are designed for profit, you would use the public listing.
You can add images to your products. These can be photographs you take, or art you produce. Digital photography works well with Zazzle. Digital art is also easily handled by Zazzle. Other art would need to be digitalized, either by scanning if the image fits a scanner or by being photographed digitally.
You can add words to Zazzle. Its text feature allows you to add words, move them around, use whatever font you wish to alter their appearance, size them as desired, and colorize them to make them look good. Zazzle enters what you add in order, so if you plan to use both an image and text, add the text last. Otherwise, the image would hide the words.
Zazzle products include mugs and steins, mouse pads, key chains, binders, refrigerator magnets, and post cards, among others. Zazzle wall art can be a poster or a print, and prints can have several finishes, including canvass, and be matted and framed. Your buyer will choose. Zazzle also has bumper stickers. Here, perhaps words alone would do nicely. Perhaps you can design tee shirts. Zazzle has a large selection.
Allow customizing your products. This allows your customers to make changes. Perhaps a customer wants slightly different wording, or maybe a different color for the background or wording. Maybe the size or location of the wording does not work for a customer. But most likely, the customer may want to personalize the item by adding a name. Allowing changes increases sales, especially if you state to your customers that you allow customization or personalization of your products.
The really great thing is Zazzle is free!

Add Zazzle to Your Hobby
Most people have a hobby. Photographs of things pertaining to your hobby can be used to produce items that sell.
Being a member of a coin club, I have an interest in coins. The particular coin club to which I belong has two auctions each year, where each members can bring five items. It works like a garage sale with bidding. I have noticed that anything with a coin or paper money image on it goes higher than it would normally go. The members of the club want things with coin images. So, I joined Zazzle and created a “coin” line. The rational is if it works for my club it may work more universally.
If you are in a gun club, a depression glass club, a doll club, or whatever, you can do the same. Chances are you already have photographs, especially if you sell online. Even after you sell an item you can continue to profit from its photograph. And, others in the hobby will probably be eager buyers if you can contact them.
Zazzle Can Open New Hobbies
Zazzle can open new hobbies for you, enriching your life.
You can easily become hooked on photography. Once you are hooked, you can open other product lines as your photo files enlarge.
You can become a graphic artist. Perhaps drawing with your computer never occurred to you. Go to Zazzle and look at what is being sold. Then create.
You can become poetic. Writing catchy phrases to add to products can become a writing hobby. You do not need to write a novel to enjoy writing. In fact, short phrases fit more products than long ones do.
Learn to Sell on Zazzle
Zazzle Can Bring You Profits
If you sell on Zazzle, you are paid a royalty fee. This is percentage based. You have to set the percentage yourself. There is a sliding scale that must be set. The lowest it goes is ten percent, and it can be brought up to about ninety percent.
What you need to remember is that you are paid according to two things, the quantity sold and the royalty percentage you set. If you have a mouse pad that is listed among the thousands of other mouse pads others have created, why would someone buy yours if the price is five dollars more than similar mouse pads? The answer is they probably would not. Setting the royalty percentage too high reduces the quantity sold.
Remember to Become an Associate
Zazzle allows you to become an Associate. This works like being an Affiliate, you get a percentage of what you sell. If Zazzle sells your item, you get the royalties. If it is sold through your Zazzle store, and you have become an Associate, you should get both the royalty and the Associate’s fee. So, why not join. This enhances your profits.
Zazzle Can Keep You Mentally Active
How many of your friends have you heard saying things like “I wish I could be creative.” Perhaps you have said this yourself. Creating a product line is profitable as a mental exercise, even if you never make a sale.
Zazzle can be a way of maintaining an active mind for the retired. Even if you are not yet ready to retire, you may know someone who needs an outlet for expression.
Sales will be slow if you do not promote your products. But, how much do you want to spend on advertising. There are several “free” classified services.
Oodle allows you to place nine images. Your customers can see what you are selling without navigating away from the site. This is important.
Intergiant allows two free images. Two may be enough. It can allow a sample of your work.
Triimart charges for all images.
Salesspeider charges for all images.
If you advertise, expect some sites to forward your information to other free advertising sites. Oodle, for example, forwards to Facebook Marketplace among the many sites to which it forwards ads.
The negative is many others are using these services which moves yours ads down from the top rapidly, some sites limit your exposure to an area, and sites some have limits on the number of ads you can place.
Of course, you can promote your products with Twitter and Facebook.
You will have to register for any site you use.
Not Feeling Creative?
For the less than creative you can still participate. Find “public” items from others, and copy them to your store. If you are an Associate, and you sell someone else’s listing, you get the Associate’s fee and the creative person gets the royalties.
If you are afraid of offending, ask. You can do this by leaving a message on the other person’s wall.
Black Spaniel Gallery has no problem with having our products sold be others, as long as the items are not displayed with morally offensive items on the same page.
Are There Quality Products on Zazzle?
This question can be answered two ways. It could be taken as does Zazzle make high quality products. The answer is yes. Before promoting Zazzle products, we ordered a few items as a sample, to examine the quality. They are great. While this was just a sample, what we extrapolated from this is Zazzle products are well made.
The other way of looking at the question is how good are the designs. Some are quite good, even professionally made. Others, well view what you advertise first. There are many artists designing and selling on Zazzle. Find them and sell high quality products.
If you have no idea what is high quality, sell the products from the "official" sites. Some organizations sell on Zazzle. Below is an example of an "official" site, and the products show that.
What kind of Products does Zazzle Make?
Usually, the particular item from a variety of related items that is shown is the most inexpensive of the group.
Zazzle makes posters, prints, and even canvass. These are all sometimes available as options to posters, so open any poster and customize. Framing and matting, with multiple choices of designs and cost, are available.
Zazzle makes shirts and jackets. Many sellers allow you to choose. If you want a different color, check the color palate. Again, use the customize feature.Long and short sleeves, hoodies, even jackets are available.
Zazzle makes mugs. The multitude of mugs is astounding. You can select colored rims, colored handles, colored interiors, frosted, and even steins. They even have a morphing mug that changes with temperature. Larger sizes for some are available. Also under mugs are the travel mugs and the steins.
Zazzle makes magnets. The default magnet is round, but square magnets are also available. Sometimes, the square magnet is more appropriate, especially is words are added. They fit better.
Zazzle makes key chains.
Zazzle has all sorts of cards, including business cards, post cards, and cards for many occasions. Some sellers also design postage stamps to match the cards or stationary that they sell.

Follow Your Talents and What Is Available to You
Different people live in different areas, and can have access to different subject matter. So, a variety of images will appear on a site where you design products that are sold. In addition, different people have different taste, some like digital photographs, some draw their images, and some are simply there to write a message for a shirt or coffee mug. This is what makes products unique, and there should be something you can do to join in.
