A Difficult Decision

Updated on November 5, 2011

Where To Go?

I have had a dilemma going on. If you read my hubs, you probably know that our house recently burned to the ground. At this moment in time, we are a homeless family. Yes, I had insurance (not nearly enough). I am writing this hub at a friends house who has graciously allowed me to stay here until things work out.

Again, if you follow my hubs at all, you also know that we have had a lot of drama and stress here in Lebanon, Missouri.

Now, we feel is the time to leave this community. There are many GREAT people here, but the stress has been a hindrance to my wife's health, and probably my health too.

We have one son who lives in Chicago with his wife and daughter. We have another son who lives in St Louis and they are expecting a daughter real soon.

We have come down to this: get somewhere in between both.

I plan on renting a car and going on a drive through the different places we have considered.

The reason I am writing this hub is to get your ideas. Any townships I have left out? Please comment! I am also leaving a poll on here, so give your suggestion on where we should go. Please keep in mind these important factors:

  1. Employment: I have done many things in life, but one of my main jobs was a press brake operator. I also know landscaping, but that is only seasonal. I have also done some construction jobs.
  2. Health: My wife is on kidney dialysis and has had major heart surgery. There must be dialysis where we go and somewhat close.
  3. Housing-Our plans are to purchase a newer trailer home(mobile home) in a trailer court. We will visit these courts first to see the "view".
Below are some pictures of communities I may be looking at. The poll will be below. Thank you for your input!

A few

The pictures and maps are towns I am strongly considering. The poll below will list quite a few more.

Where would you go if you were us?

Where to go?

What community should we consider moving to?

Froggy Blessings my brother in Christ. There are seasons. Christ is gong to move you into a season of Harvest. I just feel like I know that I know. I vote Colorado. Oops that was not on the list. Well I know NOT of the other places. You will be led. Keep listening to the small, still voice. The peace of God that surpasses all understanding. Where do you have the most peace if you compare these places? Anywhere is good froggy you got to take you, with you. God goes where you go. SO it is all good. If you do not like. well you moved once. Easy for me to say my House did not burn down. God does turn all things for good for those that love him. He has a plan.

I have missed you froggy. You are one of my first followers. It is hard to hop all over the place but do come for a read, my latest hub. You are FEATURED in it.'Celebrating the Journey'.

I am praying for you. Where does God want you????

My love and hugs on this journey. Press on do not give up hope, keep your eyes on Jesus above. DO not focus on situation rather 'IAM'. Just a reminder my brother. Thinking of you and and yours. I love ya.

I wish I knew more about this part of the country, but I don't. In any case, I do wish you well.

Thanks Fenique, a press brake is a piece of machinery that you use to bend and shape metal--it would fall under manufacturing jobs

Equal of both Prayers and Love Greg to both of you. I voted Springfield, but have you tried the Zion, IL area or Park City, IL. The view is not that great for either, I think they have trailer park in Winthrop Harbor, IL not far from me. Their view would be better, I should think.

Dialysis site are all over. There is one in Gurnee that I know of. My sister and I use to go to that one. But she moved to Chicago and got the tubing in the abdomen to do at home or where ever she is when needed. I liked it, the people are Great there. My kidneys started working again thats why the past tense wording.

There are couple in Libertyville, IL. A big one in Lake Forest, IL that one is a fairly new one. Only four years open now.

Being up this way you are close to Chicago. So your your son there can come out to see you or you go there. I usually take the train. I do not like the traffic and avoid as much as I can.

Greg, I don't know what a press brake is or does so you have to explain it to me. Construction is going on all over the place. Thing is are they hiring or are they on strike. I use to not cross picket lines. But, when you got a family of four children to feed like I did. I run, jump over those lines. At least its something until the strike is over.

There is a placed that hires person that are disabled and can not go out side to work or they have family members that are disabled. But, they hire only through a Voc Rehab state place. When you come here get with one and maybe you can get hired with them. Or the Voc Rehab can find you a job. The IL skills match is a very good place to start then the Job service program.

      I hope this helps somewhat,Greg.

Love hugs and Kisses to you both

Oh Froggy I'm so sorry to hear about your newest set of troubles. You know though that no-matter where you go little Jonathan will go with you--- in your heart. I know how much a fire devastates your life (it happened to me 6 years ago) but chin up, maybe this is all for the better and better things will be awaiting you where ever your new home will be.

      Take care

greetings to you and your wife from Canada

I voted Peoria. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law are there and they live in a town called Davenport. Seems like a great place to live. They have had a lot of rain, so something to consider. The river is great. Plus it is right between St. Louis and Chicago.

      Good luck!

Love you Greg 7 years ago

I voted Peoria Illinois. I Love you guys Greg, and I know that God STILL DOES have a plan for you. No matter where you go, I hope that you will never forget us, and even the though Lebanon has become one of the crookedest towns this side of the Mississippi I hope that you will come back and visit us often.
