make more money on hubpages by not writing hubs

Updated on September 23, 2012

writers cramp and no rewards?

why taking a holiday from hubbing can improve earnings

How to know what hubs will actually generate some revenue?

I have been writing hubs not for a long time but for a good time as I enjoyed putting on “paper “ what I know about and can relate to.

Making money on hubpages sounds like a great reward for writing and for a few these rewards appear to come thick and fast.

On the other hand for many hubbers making money from hubs is simply not happening. While the focus to write may hubs in a certain no of days appears to compel people to write it is hard not to look at some of the hubs and wonder who will actually read these and in turn click and make the writer money. As with the internet there is a tone of useless info there which will seldom read and if it does get read it will not be referred on or discussed any further the same applies to writing hubs.

My own experience and it is short is to write and then wait a bit before you charge into generating loads of hubs which potentially may be irrelevant, of little interest to others and potentially poor standard in comparison to others.

I recently took a long break from hubpages to work on what was and is a very successful venture with a property however while I took a break from hubpages I had no idea the gem of information I would return to.

Recently I logged in to have a look at my trend analysis and was pleasantly surprised and shocked by what the analysis told me.

I have written less than 30 hubs however of those 28 hubs there is one stand along high performing hub which I would never have guessed would be so popular. However reviewing the hub again and comparing it to the other hubs it truly is a fantastic informative hub which appeals to who is always a target audience for me. This one hub generates over 98% of the page views and attracts new readers on a daily basis.

Using this trend analysis I was able to then hone my writing to this market as there are any offshoots which are of interest and the revenue to come from the adverts and the products which can be bought on Amazon and eBay do generate sales and hence increase revenue further.

I would never have guessed what was a humorous, honest, real life experience could provide me with such a great response and yes this was only one hub. There are other hubs which trend in different ways and Ill be sure to spend less time on those topics and more on this micro niche which provides helpful information to people all over the world.

The key factors I have taken from the trend data is as follows:

· Never assume the popular topics will make you money

· Expect the unexpected in your trend data and then use the knowledge to help you generate more successful hubs

· Write about topics people worldwide need assistance with -

· Be relevant with your writing – do not waffle or pretend to be an expert

· Make sure your title and key words and eye catching, informative and will appear in the Google results.

I would not right now say hubpages provides me with the earnings I have targetted at this stage however having seen what one very carefully crafted hub can do for me in terms of revenue generation I am positive and confident several more hubs on this micro niche will most certainly change this.

I see many comments and questions on revenue and what should people be making per month for their hubs and my input would be if you can see your earnings jump up each month by 100 times what you were making then you are moving in the right direction. This is not a guarantee and you do have to be patient and carefully analyze what the reports tell you however it is a great way to spend your hub generation time more constructively as opposed to chasing rabbits all over the place trying to second guess what topics will make you rich!

Happy hubbing!

Great Point! I have set off on one of those challenges, but I definitely see the worth in stepping back and analyzing significant topics. I am a hubber for the joy of writing, but I don't see any harm in profiting along the way. Great content and quality writing, thank you for your insight.

Good to hear you have discovered something profitable. Did I understand that right in that your earnings have gone up 100 fold?

I have a couple of hubs that do better than the rest; but nothing much as yet. Hopefully will find something more popular in the future.

I found it is always subjects which answer a question which do the best. Especially if you answer from what some would consider personal information.

Be who you are and share what you know. Keyword research tying your information to keywords people are searching is always the best way to go. If you have a hub which is drawing readers spend more time doing research to find out what keywords are pulling and what the best ads for the hub is.

Interesting and useful hub, especially for new hubbers. Google Adwords tell us everything. If we learn how to use it, it will be priceless. Voted up!
